Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
It seems my wife (MrsG) has been planning for a few months now, writing it all down; the hows, where's, when's, why's and why not's, etc. So last weekend she says's let's go for a ride and don't be negative, just be open-minded. 'SURE, okay' I reply. She drives us to a RV Lot. We looked over this complete rig. 5th Wheel+truck, all decked out to go. And it all clicked. I've been reading and discovering for the past 5 days. This site and you guys are incredible! Love the information and knowledge base here. We've always 'talked' about this lifestyle. And dreamed. Someday.
Well, this weekend we go back with checklist's in hand to really go over the 5th wheel+truck. Have our mechanic check the truck out, etc. If all goes well, we will put into motion our "12-24" plan. Actually it's my plan - get it all together over the next 12 months with the 24 month window as the farthest out date to hit the road as full-timers!

What fun - choosing your new home! We just bought ours before Christmas, haven't even brought it home yet (dealer is doing some things to it for us) but we CANNOT WAIT!
Keep us updated on your progress - Red is right - plans can sometimes become accelerated after reading a few blogs, going to a few RV shows, spending time on this forum, going out camping a few times - ours went from 5 year to 2 1/2 years! Just like that - as long as the house sells, but Red is sending us some mojo - right Red?
Congrats on finding a rig. There are some package deals available but finding the right one usually take awhile.
As already stated be careful that the 12/24 doesn't become the 6/12 or in our case 3/9 or you can find yourself out having fun way before you thought!
Welcome and good for you!! Don't be surprised if the dream evolves as you learn more. My husband and I have had more intense conversations over this dream than we have had in years and it still keeps changing and forming. It's not a bad thing...you just don't know what you don't know. :)
Dittos to what the others said about the 12/24 plan morphing into something shorter. Our three year plan quickly became a two year plan...and D-Day is now a mere five months away.
Just out of curiosity, could you post the model of the fiver and specs of the truck? Just like to know what kind of rigs people are getting.
MrsG here... Made the big step of signing some papers yesterday!! Spent the day looking over the rig and testing slides, etc. Had the truck looked over by a mechanic in the area. Just waiting on the financing now. Fingers crossed that in the next couple of weeks we'll have the set up parked in our yard and then the FUN begins of the GIANT purge!!
Good luck! Hang on, the transition will be a memorable ride!
I suggested to my hubby that we go full time, he's jealous he didn't think of it!!
We had a 12 month plan which ended up putting us into our 5th wheel in only 8 months. Planned to hit the road this past Dec put hubby was offer an interim position too good to turn down, so we are back on the 12 month plan. :) but this time around our only hurdle is waiting on the 12 months to expire. No praying someone buys the house, no longer worrying about how to get rid of our treasures, and no emotional roller coaster while dealing with it all.
We are standing on the starting line, engine roaring to go, go, go!
Finally signed the papers on the tow vehicle and 5th wheel Saturday. Will have $$$'s in hand by mid-week to hand over for the keys! We'll get her home and parked for now, with the 12-24 Plan officially going into action the day it's out front!

We FINALLY got the truck and took it out for a spin today! Soon we'll have the 5th Wheel...hopefully in another week or so and then the official T&L Countdown to Fulltime will begin! It's a 2000 Ford F350 SD Lariat Crew Cab Turbo Diesel 7.3 Dually and has the 5th wheel hitch already in it!

Us too. I'm not sure we're potty trained yet. I just noticed where you are. I pass there many times during the week. I'm in L.A. Right now. Headed back over the hill in a couple of hours.

Congrats, can't wait to see you out on the road!! Don't feel you are tied to any specific timeframe, we learned that things happen, timing changes and in the end it all works out. And while you are on the road, timing continues to change, learning to be flexible and make plans knowing they are subject to change and accepting the change will make life on the road so much more enjoyable!!

We will all have to get together after we get our rig since we really are so close!! It'll be nice to meet some West Coasters! hehehe
Mr. G and Mrs. G update on our 2005 Alpha 5th Wheel:
More delays in getting our new home... no one said this was going to be a piece of cake, now did they? (That's ok, we need to watch our sweets intake anyway.) hahaha Trying to keep a sense of humor about it all.
We love our truck and are having fun with it, but we sure wish things were going along more smoothly with getting the Alpha here. The hold up has to do with the RV having been in Canada and needing an American title for the finance company. It just takes the state department of motor vehicle department a bunch of hoops to jump through to get it all cleared for an American title that the finance company will accept. If the dealership had taken care of this beforehand, we wouldn't be having this delay. Oh well, I'm sure it is for the best and everything will work out. We are just EXCITED!! In the mean time, we are enjoying learning about our truck and how it drives.
F I N A L L Y! We got our home...home! Now we're checking it over, making lists of what is needed in it. Once we get the plates and it becomes 'official', we'll name it and our 12/24 countdown will begin!
