Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My wife and I are looking to get a new 5th wheel and we wanted to put our own bed in it since we just purchased. Doe any one out there have one in their 5th wheel that can give me more information.
I removed my 5th wheel California Queen mattress and replaced with a more comfortable Sticks queen mattress. The quenn mattress was not as wide but not a big deal to me. The main issue was my Sticks mattress lays higher and I cannot bring in the bedroom slide without returning the California Queen mattress. I am mostly static in the same campground. I have moved to another campground once in 18 months.
As Lucky Mike says, you need a tape measure and measure all three dimensions. DRV points out that the mattress height is important. We made sure we had a standard Queen, not an RV Queen, so it made getting a different mattress easy. In our case, the mattress height is not important for the slide, but we had to get extra depth sheets to fit the particular Sleep Number mattress we bought, the one with the memory foam top.

I have to do something with mine too. It's like sleeping on a "Box Spring" without the mattress. Is there something so special with the RV mattresses they put in motor homes other than size?
As others have said, you need to check width, depth as well as height of the existing mattress.
Additionally, the tempurpedic is heavier than most mattresses, so you may have to installed different struts to best enable you to open/keep open the storage space under the bed. Also, make sure that it will not cause you a weight issue. Depending upon the size of the mattress and type of temperpedic, you can be looking at 125lbs+ additional weight ... if you have a 5th wheel and a front bedroom, much of that added weight will be on your pin.

Let me first thank all the individuals that answer my topic last week. Sorry about not giving enough info. I should have given more information.
We purchased a Contemporary Wire less ajustable bed. We have a split california king which is made up of 2 twins size beds that are held together with a brass head board. We would like to be able to use in or fifth wheel we are planing to purchase in the next couple of months. Bed sits 8.5" from floor to bottom of frame. 26 to the top of the mattress. Mattress is 76" by 80" long. Brass head board is 76.75" and 60" tall. I would love to be able to get this to work. I hope there is somebody out there that has a simular be.
I think what you will need to do to be certain that things are right is to take your measurements and apply them to the RV that interests you. If you are using an existing mattress and going into an RV with it, there may be different factors such as cabinets and dressers that may prevent your existing mattress from working. Be sure and allow for any slides being brought in that may shorten the distance you have to work with. It is likely you will need to conduct your measurements using the base for the mattress already in the RV.
I'm also doubtful that you can use the headboard in the RV's. A lot of RV beds are smaller than normal beds. Also, in most fifth wheels, there is storage under the mattresses, so if you are putting extra weight on the bed "platform," it may be difficult to raise the bed to get to the storage.
