Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I'm a wannabe from Washington State. Real first name is Lynn. I love to hike, camp, bike, you name it as long as its outdoors. The only thing I don't know is RVs!
So, I have a lot of learning. I'm turning 50 soon, so I want a 10 year plan, learn all I can, get a Newfoundland, sell the house, buy the rig, and hit the road Jack!
See you 'round the forums, and someday, on the road!
There are a lot of us from Washington State on the forums and out in the world of fulltiming. You won't be the only one. I have lived on both the dry and wet sides of the Cascades. Welcome.

Wecome, you've certainly come to a great place to learn what you need to make that dream a reality. We are years away from hitting the road, though I don't think we are looking at a ten year plan, more like 6-8 years. Still, anything could change that, hopefully we can make it sooner rather than later
Welcome, woodswoman. I can picture that big bundle of fur sitting on your lap. I baby sat a huge Basset hound for a while and had to call for help to get out of my chair when he wanted to cuddle. I have a one year plan, hoping to get on the road next year but may not even wait that long. All it's going to take is for my DH to get mad and frustrated at work (and he IS hot-tempered) and we'll be out the door... No dogs in our near future because we have three cats but maybe we'll get to meet you and your fur person.
Welcome! You have found the friendliest RV Forum on the Internet; JMHO! Welcome! Learn! Live! Enjoy! The highways and byways are in your future! It's Addicting!

You have come to the right place! I have learned so much from the wonderful people here! We are to the point of waiting for the house to sell. Then we will take our two Corgis and be off. The time does go by fast!
Welcome! Newfie? Since you don't already have one you might want to reconsider. Many places have a limit on size of your dog.
If you're not planning on staying in a RV Park you should be fine!

Thanks for the welcome everybody. I'll just sit back and read all the advice, and take lots of notes.
So, why would an RV park limit the size of your dog? You're only there temporarily and if the dog stays in the rig, what's the big deal?
The reason for a Newfie is I want a big, imposing figure for security. Some intruder will think twice if he sees a big, black, shaggy, MONSTER dog barking! The more slobber and drool the better too! Another reason for a large breed working dog is I can hitch him to a cart and he can help me haul water, wood, groceries. Working dogs like having a job to do.
most RV parks wont complain about the size if it was only you there........but it wont only be you , you will have close neighbors.....and most Insurance Co. do not cover large breed dogs on the liability policy's.....if the dog bites.....scratches .....knocks over....or intimidates its a problem

But the dog won't be staying in the rig when he has to do his business several times a day. I love Newfies and Pit Bulls and Rottweillers and if I had one I'd have to do 90% of my camping outside of campgrounds. The unfortunate reality is that liability insurance is incredibly high for certain breeds and not worth it for campground owners to cover the occasional camper/dog combination.
If you already had one I'd say maybe things will change in 8-10 years or you can research locations that don't have a restriction and plan your travels accordingly. However because you don't have one now, you can also consider other breeds.....any barking dog that stands its ground is going to be a deterrent . I give wider berth to little terriers than I do big labs.....size isn't always what makes a dog scary!
Fun, huh?! "RV plans are written in Jello" is one common saying you'll hear........it's all part of the process and you're in the best and most friendly place to find what is best for you.
Heart set on a Newfie and nothing else will do? Hell, you have enough time to get legislation passed to make big fluffy dogs the mascot for all campgrounds!!!
