Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

been hiding in the bushes for a while, time to get in the game

Well after hanging out and learning from in the shadows of this community for the past year, I think it’s time to say hello.  We have tent camped, camped in a pop-up and rented RV’s.  Each experience has refined our tastes and comfort zone for what came next. The Great Recession of ’08 set us back quite a way due to Cindi being downsized out of a job. Then her mother died and our widely dispersed family, it started us to thinking about "destuffing" the S&B turkey and downsizing our lives and refocusing on more important aspects of life.  Another family crisis and Cindi blurts out the idea that maybe we could get an RV and tour the country visiting family and seeing this beautiful country and my native Canada when we retire.  Well, to her surprise I did not need convincing and hopped right on board.

We are at least 6 years from going full-time, I’m convinced we could go at that time but Cindi still needs time to adjust to the possibility and is definitely more comfortable with 8-10 years.  A lot will depend on work opportunities over that time frame.  We will both have decent pensions so H & L’s moderate budget scenario with modifications suited for us seems very doable.  We visited the Chicago RV show this past year and we seem to be in agreement that we’ll likely select a 5er but haven’t ruled out a class A yet.

After 5 year stint in the Navy shortly after I moved to the USA from Canada in 1988 I have worked for a major railroad for the past 18 years and will retire from them.  Cindi is currently seeking new employment and hopefully she will find something suitable to go with her MBA.  She did a lot of process improvement and quality assurance for a major employer.  We also have a 2yr old beagle named Josie.  She provides us with entertainment thru “Josie TV” (Great idea for a YouTube channel)

We have enjoyed many of the exchanges that go on here about and would be delighted to meet many of you in the future.  We’d like to attend a rally at some point in the future before actually beginning to more fully immerse ourselves in the experience.  Special thanks to Howard & Linda for gathering together the resources and the community that has built an outstanding website and the forums contained herein.

Welcome! I hope your DW finds a great job soon and usually places start hiring after the holiday rush so maybe that is just around the corner. Cute dog! We have never had a Beagle but have been charmed by a few owned by others. We started out with tents also in the 80's moving up to the luxury of the pop-up and so on.

Thanks Cathy, with the economy picking up locally we hope her job prospects are about to turn.  As Lucky Mike has said to others we are relaxing and breathing not letting the difficulty keep our spirits down.  Josie was a rescue from a Military family that was about to add another member and with hubby deployed she simply could not take care of her.  Josie and been a wonderful new family member for us. She has a huge bag 'o toys under the tree for her to tear into in couple of days, should be a laugh riot!

Brian and Cindi,

Welcome to the RV Dreams forums as "active" members and participants.  While I certainly don't need to tell you of the value of this place, I can say that the "family" will likely be better for it that you have become an actual participant.  Glad to have you here.

Terry

Thanks Gene, Terry & Jo. Being in the background has had it's advantages as a web searchable info resource but the connection to the actual posters here is invaluable too. Looking forward to mining all things RV and other tidbits too along with the cameraderie this forum definitely has. Our kinda folks.

Welcome Brian and Cindy. It's nice that you came out of the closet. The more the merrier.

Red, I wouldn't mind parking next to your herd.

Welcome, I'm fairly new to this forum and love it too. The friendliest, non-judgmental group I've ever found. DH and I are former full-timers and planning to do it again ASAP. Economic realities force us to wait (probably one more year) but there's a wealth of information here, even for those of who've already had the dream experience. We travel with three cats and would love to meet your fur-people.

I'm sure Josie would love the company anytime the "Herd" was near. She loves to play with everybody and everything. Red, Mark & Jackie and Dyana thanks for the welcome. Look forward to meeting all of you somewhere down the road. I feel that we'll be a lot RV wiser by the time we are ready to go FT and I'm sure we'll still make some goofs but having such great group around will make things easier and less stressful... always a good thing.

That would be an honor Mark.  I bet we cross paths sooner than later.

I'm hoping your right about the timeframe.... things are looking much better than even a year ago.;) If we're parked next to Red and you come along there will definitely be a herd for hangin' with! Josie will love the company no matter who's there, she loves everybody.
