Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I was looking at the "List of Users" here which I find very interesting and noticed that some were listed as "lurkers". What is a "lurker"? I have never seen that term used on a forum before. Anyone that hasn't looked at the list, should as it interesting to see especially where people are logging in from as I never thought I would see people logging in from outside the US.
In looking at the list, I get curious about some of the members. The ones who have been members for a long time, post regularly, and then disappear off the face of the earth.
Hey! An idea for a forum requirement. "All family members, not otherwise posting, shall be required to check in once a month with a 'well-being' report." We'll have to come up with some kind of punishment for non-compliance.
Thank you! I'm thinking VanMar is joking. To me though, you get used to seeing someone around posting and then suddenly they are gone, well, you just always wonder what happened to them. I know when we have relocated, I have tried to let those that might care, where we have went and how things are going. I've seen "Guests" logged in from China, UK, Ukraine and a few other surprising places. As a child I used to sit and go through the phone book looking at all the numbers and names and thought it was the most fantastic thing I had ever seen. I am easily entertained.
I saw a post a couple months ago where a member asked about another who seemed to have disappeared. Within hours someone replied with the missing person's status. Asking the question seems like the best first step to find out about a MIA member.
In the absence of evidence to the contrary I think we should assume they won the lottery and are spending all their time spoiling their grandkids !
I actually have been thinking a lot of someone who was very active and then suddenly disappeared. I sent her a PM but didn't get a response. Should I post here (new subject of course) whether anyone has heard from this member?

Yeah, I was.But there are some members that I found entertaining and informative that I wonder about. It's like any family member that disappears....you feel like filing a missing persons report.
If one looks further into the list of users, one finds that there are a LOT of folks that have registered but have not posted but maybe once or twice. I guess some simply came and registered in order to ask one or two questions and then moved on. Or, they might have read enough of the experiences of others to get the idea that this life isn't for them.
Who knows, but it is disconcerting to see a fairly active user disappear for a long period. It makes me begin to speculate that they are having to deal with serious illnesses in their family, or even worse, have passed on. After all, being an RV Dreams "family" member is just that. We are a family with the same concerns for the others as it would be in our own families.
I recall the words of Glenn Beck when talking of family one time. His daughter that has special needs began to talk of her "family of the heart." When Glenn asked her about that, she replied that she had her "blood" family to which she was literally related to, but that all those acquaintances that she had grown to love, otherwise known as friends, were her "family of the heart."

You can ask here, this might be a good start , kind of like a Lost and Found for missing members....
I don't know if it will help, but some members activate the feature that sends them an e-mail when anyone posts to a thread that they started. Even if they haven't been logging into the forums, they will get the e-mail, so you might try that. For them to get a PM, they may have to log in order to even know a private message was sent to them.
