Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

DiY Gizzmo's.......got one Share it !!!!!

heres another thread that will fill the need of "project " and boredom to create usefulness!!

I'll go first!!!

Simple WiFi Booster for limited space!!!!!

Parts & Tools needed:

1.) large pill/prescription vial.....(if your over 50 you have tons of these!!

2.)silicone sealant or hot glue gun

3.) WiFi dongle....(that thingy you plug in your usb port that gets you internet) or pick up a real cheap one in walmart or radio shack

4.) usb male to female cable......12 feet or better works best or buy 2 so you can hook them together!!

take the pill vial and carefully cut the cap so the female end of the usb cable fits snugly thru it facing the inside of the vial....attach the dongle by plugging it into the cable, and now take and replace the cap and vial back together.

Take your hot glue gun or silicone and seal around the cap and bottle....also seal around the cable area you cut thru the lid and let it dry!!

your done!!!......you now have a basic water resistant dongle that can be placed outside to improve Wifi/ internet reception.

the object of this is to place it high up or at least outside so there is no structure to interfere with the signal

I placed mine on a 4 ' piece of pvc pipe and attached one of those cheap suction cup shower handles to it....it sticks to the window and holds the dongle over the roof line I just feed it thru the window!!

I made one for a friend who put his on the vent cover and cranks the vent open when he wants to use it!!

if you want to enhance this basic system find an old laptop running windows 7 or vista connect the antenna to it and you can set the old laptop up as a a wireless wifi server within the coach!!!!.....(this is a whole nother story for later)

Just a related internet tip. If you ever think about a cell device...between a usb stick or a separate device...I like the separate device kind. Although they have their own power cord/source/battery, you can put them up in the skylight, outside on a picnic table, wherever and then connect to it from a comfortable place. This worked better than the plug in cell card because I wound having to sit in weird places and positions to get a better signal or any signal at all in some places.
