Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Brand new to the site here and so far I like what I see :)
Wifey and I are 55 and hoping to retire, on the open road, in 3 to 5 yrs. (fingers crossed, really tight)
We presently live near Lake Placid NY, yes we are in the boonies for sure. We climb in the gorgeous Adirondack Mountains and we boat on beautiful Lake Champlain. We love the area, tolerate the bugs, and have a real desire to hit the road in a nice 5th wheel (toy hauler) to get away from the long, cold and dark winters. We long for the sun and we are driven to explore our stunning and varied country - particularly out west.
Please tolerate the occasional dumb question that is sure to follow!
Hoping for some answers and shared experiences but also for just plain old good conversation with you all. :)
Welcome to the site and let me tell you this one thing I have learned: there is no such thing as a dumb question! And, if there were, I am sure I have already asked it, so they have heard it already! Ha ha!
Seriously, everyone is GREAT! here, and they all seem to care for one another! I feel privileged to be a part of it!
Welcome! We just joined the site too. Great place to be.
Perspective is everything. You say you live in the Boonies, Lake Placid, NY.
Well, we live in SW ND, Slope County. Our county has about 600 residents, and the county seat has 21! The only other town in the county has about 100 residents. The county seat had held the record for the smallest county seat in the nation with 18, but, due to the oil boom north of us, a family of three moved into town, and moved them down to 2nd place!

Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. If you've not been lurking long, you will soon find this to be a site with a lot of knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and encouraging folks. I think I can be safe in saying that they will be a great benefit to you.
As for dumb questions, the only dumb ones are those that don't get asked and one finds out later that not asking led to expensive or time consuming problems. So, feel free to ask them all because we all learn from each other. Besides, you might just put a new perspective on an idea.
Since you are considering a fifth wheel, let me give you the "standard" advice. Choose the trailer first so that you can be sure that any truck you buy is capable of handling the weight of the fifth wheel you want. The last thing you want is a trailer that really overpowers the truck.

Welcome to the forum! You are not far from my hometown - I grew up in AuSable Forks and my mom still lives there. I sure know what you mean about long cold winters. Don't miss them for sure!! We go up north every summer for a couple weeks - definitely the best season up there in my opinion. :)

Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi
We are 3 miles from the Forks - We Live in Ausable Acres!
Nice to hear from you!
PS: Bad News; the M & M Diner is closing after Christmas. Going to miss those deelicious b'fasts.......
Bummer! I hadn't heard that from my mother. That's terrible. Sure cuts down the options for eating out. You may know my mother then - she works at Dr. Bremer's office.
Welcome! We are fairly new too. We won't be heading out until summer of next year but we are soaking up all the great info. We used to live in Brockport (between Buffalo & Roch) and we really miss the Adirondacks! You'll find great people here, some of which we have met already and others we are looking forward to meeting at the rally next spring.
