Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Power question-engine running and gen running

So I am looking at a 96 Callista Cove class c with less than 40k miles. All lights were on inside the coach and both the engine and generator were running. Seemed that the lights were a little dim. Turned off the generator and all lights immediately were their normal bright. What the heck? Anybody have any ideas? Is this normal? Another thing - sat in the driver seat and it felt like it was 100k miles old or a 400 lb person had been in it for 40k miles. Maybe the odometer has been turned back?

Well let's take a look here for a sec, when the RV engine is running it will charge the batteries and take care of the DC volts, that would be the RV camper lights, the generator runs the AC volts and has a small DC charger maybe 8 amps that adds to the charge, could be a bad DC ground or lose positive DC wire off the generator or the battery.

Follow the DC wire from the generator to the battery or batteries and put a voltmeter gauge on different spots of the wire till you come to the batteries, follow the wire, could be a short in the wire, charging should be at 14.0 volts to 14.8, hope this helps, just my thoughts.

I'm with Lonney on a loose connection on the power cables. Also test the house batteries for short. IMO I wouldn't buy an rv knowing it had electrical issues, have the owner resolve these first. Best of luck in your search.
