Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

can't get furnace lit on vintage rv PLEASE help

I have a Hydro Flame FA-7225 that isn't really responding to any input. It's in a 1976 Dodge Brougham motorhome that I recently purchased and don't know the last time it was used. The propane stove and oven work great. When I move the thermostat i hear a click in the heater. Should the fan motor be turning on whether or not the pilot is lit? I put my meter at lots of places and found 12.9 everywhere. I have tried lighting the pilot with the igniter several times and nothing seems to be happening. I do not hear the sound of gas flowing at all when i turn the switch to pilot or when i depress it. I traced the propane line from the furnace to where it disappears through the floor and there was no valve. I removed the pilot line and blew through it and it was clear. I have looked all over the internet and read the manual and I'm stuck. I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Welcome to the Forum, not an expert but something must tell the valve to open when the therm calls for heat....even though you are showing 12.9 that does not mean things are opening to let gas flow....should be a relay and valve.....

when you put the thermostat in the on position so it calls for heat the fan should come on immediately.if it doesnt you need to find out why.....it could be stuck......as far as the pilot it might take several press and holds for the gas to come thru the line if it is the first time its being lit this year

On a 1976 Motorhome they used a pilot light thermocouple, it may need to be replaced, when you hold the gas valve down and light the pilot if gas is there it will light, if the pilot light does light hold it down for about 1 minute to warm the thermocouple, after you release it if the pilot light does go out replace the thermocouple, the thermocouple is just above the small flame or pilot light.

burner fails to ignite and blower fails to run possible problems:

1. no electrical power to furnace.

2. popped circuit breaker or blown fuse.

3. Thermostat defective.

4. Thermostat wire broken.

5. thermostat location.

6. blower motor defective.

7. blower relay defective.

8. wire off motor.

9. wire of relay.

10. improperly grounded.

Hello

We have the same Dodge as you

Just bought it yesterday and are having similar problems as you with the furnace

But ours we are getting propane but will not ignite, fan blows then we do as directions, hold down 30 seconds an hit ignite a few times but will not lite

Did you find out what the problem was with yours?

This is our first night in ours, so not too cold out tonight in Missouri so making it without heat but giving it another try tomorrow

If you or anyone has any suggestions we would greatly appreciate it

Safe and Happy Travels

turn the thermostat off.....
hold the gas valve button in for 30 seconds..(if this is the first lighting of the season hold it for a full minute to purge air out of the line) hit igniter (you should be able to see the spark from the igniter thru the view window)......repeat the process a couple times durring first lite up......if you smell gas...STop.....
