Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Nothing Ever Works Out Like You Plan?

So, my husband and myself planned to full-time and workcamp not waiting until retirement.  We have a son who is 27 and has Down syndrome.  We looked at different programs and he tried some and they were inadequate to unspeakable.  So, are plans are in the works of being totally altered.

Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement. I do know that things have a way of falling into place but, there are days........... Obviously, with our son, we have faced a few obstacles in our time. What is it? "Good things come to those that wait." I didn't used to understand it but I get it now. Too many people just rush into something sort of knowing it isn't right but don't want to wait and then, well, we probably all have done it and know how that turns out.

We can sympathize with you. We have a special needs daughter who is 32. She was in a group home with two of her best friends. She was there for about a year and a half. But, it was not a good environment for her and, about a year ago, we ended up bringing her back home with us. She does much better at home with us and is much happier. However, we also have had to adapt our plans. Our daughter is very self-sufficient and a joy to be around, but she does have very specific needs and requirements. Those things tend to really tie us down. But we have decided that her happiness is important enough to us that we will adapt our full-time plans to include her...although we are still looking for a suitable place for her where she can be happy and fulfilled.
Hang in there. In the meantime, don't forget to live and enjoy each day you have. You do not want life to pass you by while you are "planning" for it.

Lots of times when things don't work out as planned the result is even better. Have faith.

I don't have an answer for you except to offer my support for your situation. My nephew (my brother's son) is Downs, so I'm aware somewhat of your trials. He is 24, and it is a constant struggle to find his place in life that will allow them to have their own lives. I'm not sure he'll ever be able to live without them being right around the corner looking over his shoulder. For now, he is back home as programs they've tried haven't worked. I know their goal has always been that he live independently of them...perhaps a group home.

I hope things work out for you. I agree with Dogfolks. Things will work out even better than you had imagined. Hang in there.

Ditto.......some times trying to plan and work things out only disappoints......and sometimes letting things go there course and choose there path leads to amazing outcomes!!!!!

I hope it all falls into place in a manner that is good for all.

Live , Breathe , relax....................
