Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Sweet Home Alabama

Last time I checked in we were at a very depressing campground in Heflin.  Filthy showers, broken washers and dryers, unmaintained grounds.......what were we thinking!  The final deal breaker was an 18-wheeler in a pull through site and the driver taking a shower behind the truck with a hose.   That did it.  We paid for 30 days, but left after 7. I just couldn't take it anymore.

We packed up and moved to the KOA in Anniston, which is right next door to (and owned by) Dandy RV, which is a full service repair and dealership.  That's kinda handy.  The KOA is quiet, there is no pool, so there are no kids.  Everything is super clean, but there are no trees and it is blistering hot in the afternoon sun!  We call it Death Valley. lol.   I picked up some of those silver insulated car window shades at Dollar General for $3 each and am going to do some engineering to put them on the sunny side of the rig.  That should help.   We are 20 miles from Talladega Speedway.  KOA hostess said they get very little Talladega crowd here and no rowdies.  Right now we are full of Alabama and Auburn fans, guessing there is a game this weekend.  Football is definitely the religion of choice down here!

Anyway, thought Id pop in and say hi.  Hope everyone is happy, healthy, and safe.  Will try to catch up in a bit.

Yeah. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and get out....know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em. Glad the new place is better, and with the holiday weekend upon you and with no pool, there certainly won't be tons of kids. Being from the south, I know what you mean about football. We are from a UF Gator town and family (even though we're Seminole fans!!). Football fans certainly go nuts for their team. Hope there isn't a riot at the CG.biggrin

Stay cool.....Gayle

Hi Scrappy. We bought the windshield reflectors from the Dollar Store about 3 weekends ago when the outside temperature gauge was reading
116 degrees! Placed them on the afternoon sunny side and in the back window and it really helped the units quite a bit. It might have looked a
little tacky, but hey, it was August in Texas. There is a company that makes a product that looks nicer when installed (don't know the name)
but we aren't interested in a more permanent application. Pat K

We have dark, frameless windows, so from the outside you cant see the tacky silver things, but they sure did help yesterday!

First local high school football game was last night and WOW the traffic.  They have a huge stadium right by here and the entire town was out of control!

We were told that "Roll Tide" or "War Eagle" are appropriate greetings here, lol.....but we have to pick a side.  Well, I have to stick with Mizzou (University of Missouri Columbia) since I will be paying my sons college loan for the rest of my natural life. haha

Our awning wont roll in.  ????  One will, the other wont.  Just dead.  Luckily we are right next to a dealership and everything under warranty.  Hopefully they will send somebody over and we wont need to take the RV over there.  Its not a fuse, everything else works......rats.

Mary,

It could still be a fuse somewhere.  While our RV has a fuse and breaker box inside a compartment within the coach, there are some instances where there are fuses outside.  Our awning control boxes are in the basement of ours and there is a separate box for each awning.  Do you have two and do they both have power getting to them?  If they do, then you'd be right that it is likely not a fuse.

Thanks Terry.  We have two awnings. One works, one does not. Nothing, not even an attempt.  I do believe all of our fuses are in one control panel right inside the door.....but I will tell him when he returns from trying to locate a barber shop which is a real task apparently.  He while whine if he has to get his high & tight done at a beauty salon. haha.

If not, maybe the dealership can point him in a direction, they are a Forest River dealer so I am sure they will be helpful.   Well, I hope they are helpful.....

Slight change of subject as I was working in the office yesterday afternoon. Got a call from an elderly gent who said, "I buy gas there sometimes and my kids just bought a trailer and we don't know how to get the awning out. How do you do it?"

Some days I just wanna shoot myself. 😄

I wasn't thinking fast enough to reply that they should bring their camper to our park as there would be plenty of RV'ers who would help them out!

OK, we too, needed the tacky silver stuff. Made it looks better on the inside by buying some spray adhesive, cut fabric a little bit bigger than the tacky silver stuff, stuck it on, wrapped it around the sides, put heavy duty black velcro on the black window frames and viola - looks like a curtain on the inside.  You can take it off and put it back on when needed and when your inside, you don't know it is tacky silvery stuff.

 Good idea!

I stuffed our ever-tacky silver stuff between the shades and the window.  Cant see it! It really has made a huge difference in here. I had some pieces left over, so I put sticky Velcro dots on them and put them over the vent in the bedroom and the skylight in the bathroom.   $9 in tacky silverness went a long way!

I also did some research and found out that our 2013 Dometic 9100 series awning has been recalled due to a motor issue.  Will call them Tuesday when they reopen.

If I'm understanding right our light filtering/room darkening pleated shades won't block the heat from direct sunlight? Fortunately, the lot we have reserved is nicely shaded.
