Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Danby Dishwasher

I found the Danby brand of portable and drawer style dishwashers. The reviews were good, has anyone here used one of these before? I'm hoping to install mine under the sink. From the pictures they have a trash can on a sliding drawer so it doesn't appear that pipes are in the way. The 24th can't come soon enough!!

I haven't seen those but I would encourage you, if you haven't already, to read some product reviews on them.  I was going to buy one of their portable washing machines but the reviews were not good.  I shop the Compact Appliance website which has some good options for "compact".  With reviews, some people just expect too much or don't read the instructions that come with a product and you can see by reading if there is a functional and reoccurring issue and how the manufacturer handles those issues.  I did buy one of the counter top dishwashers under another brand and I was not pleased with it but mostly the issue was the limited space and by filling it, it just didn't do a good job.

Installing a dishwasher under the sink is a bad idea, IMO. You are moving dishes from the sink into the dishwasher....where are you going to stand to rinse dishes, etc. Or is this a countertop unit that you will move out?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Snowgypsy: All of the reviews I read were good, but I like your thought on HOW to read them for what to expect and I'll search for compact appliance sites.

Jack: I understand what you mean about sink to washer, but my idea of loading is from your hand or table to the washer:) It is a portable / counter top drawer unit. Under the sink would be "storage" and loading then set it out to run it.

If it's just two people I see a dishwasher as a waste of space. How long can it take to do dishes for two people by hand. Not very long....we don't have one in our small condo and would rather have the storage space.Just my opinion.

Thanks for your opinion, Racerguy:) My opinion is mostly sanitary reasons, I've always had one and I just feel they're cleaner. We selected our mobile condo with a DW in mind, (it's the bedroom I'm concerned about:). If I was retired and home every day I might think differently, but I usually bring work home so dishes are not something I'm interested in doing. Plus, DH does most of the cooking (grilling) and I'd hate for him to have to do the dishes too!!

I have the opposite opinion on the dishwasher than Racerguy.....I think it IS a good thing to have for 2 people. We have had a drawer unit in two 5th wheels now. Personally I would not be without it. I find it incredibly convenient, and we do tend to use more "real" dishes since wwe have it. I do all pots and pans by hand, but dishes and silverware go into the DW.

It is as much a matter of personal preference as anything else....I love it. I also love the TV on a lift, the Bigfoot levelers, our washer and dryer, and our electric fireplace. All can be considered spacewasters...and I have considered a washer/dryer as that in the past. I was wrong. I love having the W/D.

We have a Fisher Paskel drawer unit. For a simple meal Alie usually will do them by hand, but if we have any company then the dishwasher gets used. Ours is located under the cooktop where the oven would be.
