Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Army Champ Camp vs. Private Farm??

We need some advice from the experienced full-times to choose between two RV site options-

1. Army Champ Camp where we are currently parked with 50amp full hook-up service.  There are approximately 25 RVs currently parked there (a few full-timers and some only show up for the weekends).  There is a community building/comfort station with free wifi, cable tv, washers/dryers for $1.00/load and clean restrooms and showers.  The site is secluded and we are backed in a space the backs up to woodlands and no neighbors immediately on our door side.  Oh yeah - and there is driving range at the end of the road for you campers. Parking for one vehicle is okay but tight for two.

vs.

2. Private farm with 5 RV full hook up sites (electric, water, sewer).  We would have room to have extra "stuff" like an extra vehicle, bikes,  and a trailer so we could spread out a little more.  There is no comfort station nor wifi/cable.  The farm would be an extra $100.00 per month but it is a month to month term and within our budget.  It is also 15 or 20 miles closer to where hubby is working.

After our house sells it will be me, DH, and a 75 lb dog full time through the winter.  We are looking into our options for tv and internet and we have access to free laundry elsewhere but I welcome any thought or suggestions on the sites.  I like the security of being on the Army base but also like the privacy and shorter commute of the farm site.  Any other pros/cons we should consider in our decision making?

if it is 15 to 20 miles closer to work...just in commuting you will save 100.00 plus a month......TV can be had thru Dish-net at 20 a month and wifi could always be thru your cellphone ........and those 2 are picked up by the commute savings alone

I would always go for the shorter commute, especially if you have more room. Less time spent commuting and more open space will probably lead to a more peaceful state of mind, or it would for me. Of course I love my commute with my "work from home" job, the walk from the bedroom to my desk in the living area is sooooo far to walk in the AMsmile  I'm also not a fan of crowded RV parks, we stay in them when we have to but look forward to those times when we have more room between sites and can stay at state, county, national parks, etc.

Thanks for the thoughts! We are paid up for this month and I'm already looking into our options for tv and internet - leaning to the Antennacraft antenna and increasing our cellphone data plans to allow for mobile hotspot usage. We have DirectTV at the house but will be removing that along with home phone and internet as soon as HD's office moves. The dog and I plan to go stay with him in the RV and hopefully come back to the house to visit or when it's time to pack up! I'm leaning to the farm for the shorter commute and seclusion - now to convince DH that he won't miss the hot showers or porcelain commodes in the comfort station!
