Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hello and thank you so much for letting me join your forum,

My name is Eric Howe. I run a company in Austin TX called Concept Smoke-Screen. 

We manufacture and install a device that when activated either through an alarm system or by motion sensors releases a non toxic, Zero residue thermally generated smoke that conceals valuables. In fact it can conceal a lot more. We install our devices into warehouses, shops, offices, boats, trucks and I was thinking why not RV's?

I wanted to run this proposal past members of this forum really just to gauge opinion.

We have installed over 60,000 machines and feel this genuinely offers a true solution to theft from RV's.

How it works is when an RV owner leaves their RV, they plug in the machine and close the door, click on the remote key-fob and the machine is set.

To disable it, a click on the key-fob is all thats required.

If anyone breaks in to the RV, in under three or four seconds the inside of the RV is engulfed in a no residue, non toxic smoke that means the intruder cant see a thing.

First reaction is to run because firstly they are shocked, secondly, the don't know if it is toxic and lastly, they don't want to be trapped and caught.

In essence they leave empty handed.

Once activated the machine alerts the RV owner by calling their cell phone.

In the event of power being switched of to the RV, a built in back up battery operates the system for up to an hour.

This works brilliantly in buildings, cars, boats. I think it could be the ultimate deterrent other than shooting an intruder.

Interesting concept, my questions and concerns would be , what is the smoke? Has it ever gone off accidentally? Would my pets be OK if it went off?

Hello Genecop,

Good questions.

The smoke is a mixture of de-ionized water and glycerin which is a food product.

The size of the droplets is 0.2 micron in diameter which has been shown to be safe to the respiratory system.

We actually have some of these systems installed in schools.

In regard to have we ever had false activations.

Very rare and in all cases as a result of someone keying in a wrong alarm code or forgetting to unset it in the event of a standalone system.

We often install in banks and pharmacies who have extremely high customer protection concerns. Furthermore our systems are installed in a large number of high security military establishments and once again the testing criteria is very strict.

I was approached by a gentleman earlier this week who asked if one of our smaller units would be effective.

Absolutely it would be!

I was just trying to gauge opinion.

Alarms have limited effect but if an intruder can't see.....he can't steal.

I believe we may have something that will make a difference.

Simple but very effective.

Unless this product is powered by 12V electricity, there would be times when it would be completely unusable as many RV'ers like to be in places where 110V electricity is not available, not to mention the times when they would be traveling and away from shore power.

In addition, since RV'ers have a concern for the amount of weight carried in their rigs, how much would the machine weigh?

Would the smoke generated create any kind of residue that could remain on counters, furniture, and cabinets?

Another factor would be cost.  How much would your units cost?  After all, cost is also a concern of RV'ers.  I suspect that many of us would rather spend the money to go to our next destination.
