Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hello

I am a retired disabled law enforcement officer. My wife and I are trying to see if we can financially go full time on the road. Any suggestions will help. I have read some of the blog, I know people don't like to talk about money, but I have to, to be able if a life on the road is possible , I only have about $4,000 a month total. I will have a RV payment, no way around it. Any help will be appreciated.

thanks

Tom

That is very doable.  We are on half that amount and also have a coach payment. We use Passport America and also use Escapees and they have more than paid for themselves.  We have been on the road for about 10 months and are loving every minute of it.  Hope to meet you someday, down the road.

Depending on your lifestyle 4 K a month is very doable......in fact its doable at half that. is there a reason a payment is needed?......have you searched the used market for something to buy strait out without incurring the payment?

Tom,

First of all, thanks for your service in law enforcement.  All of our communities and citizens should be appreciative of those that serve us in police, fire, and ambulance services.

Secondly, welcome to the RV Dreams forums.  If nothing else, you can get quite an education here on Howard and Linda's website and from the participants on the forums.  I suggest that you go find Howard and Linda's financial reports.  On their home page, there is a "tab" for "Financial Information," in which are a number of items of interest, plus their actual financial reports.  While their lifestyle will likely be different than yours, you can still get an idea of what it costs them for all the normal, everyday expenses.

Good luck with your research and planning, and we're hoping that things will work out that you can join many others in this lifestyle.

Terry

Tom,

Welcome. Think you can do it and be comfortable. The RV park we are currently in offers a 20% discount to active or retired or disabled, military, firefighters, EMT's and police as long as they have appropriate ID's. Be sure to ask when you do get on the road. Not all parks do this but it's worth asking. Also get a Passport America membership, it'll pay for itself in one, two or three stays, depending on the individual parks policy as it can be a 50% discount on fees.

Hey Tom,
I'm retired from the Job also. My wife and I plan on full timing soon - hopefully by next summer. Still tossing around the pros and cons of a Class A vs a Fifth Wheel. I believe your budget will allow you to thoroughly enjoy the life style. I think the key is - as most people say - don't treat full timing like a full time vacation. Keep track of what you spend, look for bargains and save on fuel by not moving the rig every couple of days.

Feel free to send me a private message if you ever want to talk about the Job or anything else related to RVs.

Good Luck!

Hello Tom,
I am also retired from law enforcement. This site is the best for help in answering your questions about the full time lifestyle. As said before, if you have any questions, ask away.

Good luck and be careful out there.
