Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Fridge coils icing up

Our Dometic Fridge coils have iced up.  There is a thick coat of frosty ice on the coils.  To me the fridge seems to cooling, but my wife doesn't think so.  We do not have a thermometer.  The freezer and ice maker are working fine.  Is this ok?  Normal?

In humidity and if the door is opened often you will get frost. Most RV fridges will go through a defrost cycle to reduce the frost.

Check the fridge owners manual to see if the sensor on the coils is in the correct position. You may need to move it.

Get a good thermometer to keep in the fridge so you will know if it is staying cold enough.

Here's a website to get a manual if you don't have one:

Probably.  These RF fridges don’t work like (as well in some respects) as home units.  However they do have other advantages – like not needing 120 volts.  So you are going to get some frost build up, especially on the coils and in the freezer in high humidity conditions – and eventually in even low humidity environments.  Just expect a bit of it.  If the unit is at the proper temperatures in the main fridge and the freezer, it’s probably working correctly as such.

BTW, leaving the door open, like some did in the S & B home fridge for longer periods of time while one “makes a selection” is a no-no with the RV fridge.  But I’ll be you knew that.

Bill

to check your door seals.....place a flashlight inside the fridge and freezer compartment at nite......close the door and turn the lights off , you should be able to see any seal leaks!!

proper Fridge temp 36 to 42 degrees

proper freezer temp 0 to -10 or lower
