Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

30 amps--Are you kidding ?

Well its all really not to bad.....

TV.....raise the OTA antenna , turn on the amp......Ta-Da TV !!!!

30 Amps.......Well it looks like running 2 A/C's, the micro-wave and the blow dryer at the same time is out of the question!!!!......camping is getting tougher every year!!!! (I kinda miss sites with only a 15 amp outlet)

40 foot apartment!!!!.....I only have 26 with 21 feet of living space ,I feel like somethings missing!!!!

Tides out!!!!........good time for clamming or getting muscles ....MMMMmmmmm ,Great with hot butter and garlic!!!!

only a week of this!!!!!..........................guess Glamping sometimes results in seeing how the otherside lives!!  (even if it's only for a short time)

We only had to drive 40 miles to get to the river front RV Park we have been waiting for,

We got here and no TV (I'm at odds with Dish, may have to rethink that).

Plugged in and only had 30 amps. Whats up with that ? Good thing I had an adapter.

40 foot apartment on wheels and only 30 amps.

Tide was out and our special view was a mud flat.

Oh well only a week to go.

If you are out camping you are still way ahead of the game even without all the amenities!

30AMP is very common and we live with it fine and have for about 12 years, 10 as fulltimers with a 40' diesel pusher. We also know how to live on 300' of extension cord, where you better not use more than 7 to 10AMPs.

BTW: We are on 30AMP right now. Next week we will be on 30AMP water and electric where the power is a bit weak, so it is best to treat as 20 to 25AMP. We do fine, you will too after some practice.

We've been on 20a with a view of our diesel shop where we're getting an engine rebuild for the past 6 weeks. Even when the temps reach the upper 90s, we're doing fine. We designed our coach's electrical system to boost off the batteries to handle heavier loads when needed.

Adaptability and agility are wonderful amenities to bring along on RVing adventures.

Each spot will have it's negatives and positives. We find it a lot easier to focus on the positives. That doesn't mean we wouldn't love a river view and 30a of power however. :)

Last weekend in the Tri-Cities area of WA state, we were happy to have 20 amps, we could run one AC unit if we turned everything else off!! We were so happy to have one unit running when it hit 102 and Tazzy Kat was not complaining!!

Yep, just how you look at it, we have been in the same area at 99 with no power and had to run the generator in the evening to cool off the rig enough to sleep, this year we were happy to have power on for 80% of the time we were there even if it was only 20 amp.

Perspective, adaptability and just being thankful to be free has made us willing to forget about all the conveniences of life in exchange for our freedom.

Just my $.02 after 2 weeks of officially being full time and LOVING IT!!!!!!!

Mike
Next week we are going to have the Bat Wing replaced because we broke the gears and it won't go up.
I tried to have the wife stand on the roof with a coat hanger but no luck.
I guess this is what they meant by "Roughing It"
Guess I'll go get another adult beverage from the fridg and feel sorry for me, all I have to watch is the river going by and eagles soaring over head.
Darn this is hard to take.

Last week we stayed at a FREAT state park with no direct TV,, no cell,, no internet,, and the local channels were only a couple. I don't know HOW we survived LOL!!!

OK, if that is not a result of actions by the "spelling gremlin," what is a FREAT?   If that is a new term for some state parks, I've never heard of it and need to be educated.  If it is supposed to be "GREAT," then I have nothing to say except to apologize for highlighting your typing skills.

Terry

Well then,,,, apology accepted  LOL!!That's twice you have tagged me on spelling,,,, were ,,, was,,, are you a teacher or something?? Actually this one was just a typing error.

Dang,,, if you ever read my blog I must drive you pure crazy. But then if you were to read the first page of the blog it clearly states that I'm not the best speller and I certainly don't use proper English some of the time LOL!!  All in fun.

I try to not get out of sorts at the spelling and grammar of others because I know my writing lacks perfection as well.  Even on my blog, I write everything first in Microsoft Word so that I can use that program's spelling and grammar checkers.  I even have them on to check me as I write.  Then I do a full check again before copying and pasting it into LiveWriter to prepare for pictures and links prior to "publishing" to the blog.

I still get a bunch wrong......

......and no, I'm not a teacher.  However, as a new high school graduate, my desire was to become a journalist.  I even went to one year of college with a journalism scholarship.  Too bad I changed my major from journalism to "party."

As for the 30-amp topic, we never used hook-ups in all of our vacations until 2009 when we stayed at Sportsman's Campground out northwest of Pagosa Springs.  We had two weeks of hook-ups and it changed Jo forever.  Now, I'm not sure I will be able to get her to boondock.  (Just kidding, Dear.)

Reminds me of the time we went tent camping in a remote area, no electricity and the DW brought her blow dryer and hair curler.

I hate it when my fat fingers hit the F key instead of the G key...it makes me G*&%ing mad.

We use the "two big appliance" rule on 30AMP. Big appliances for us are one A/C (normally the front), the electric hot water, electric space heater, the microwave, toaster oven, hair dryer, washer, vacuum and espresso machine (coffee). We can only run two at once on 30AMP, turn something off (normally the electric hot water or occasionally the A/C) to run something else. We are both used to it and know the drill. We both have to follow the rules. Don't make one person the electric sheriff, but whomever made the mistake gets to go outside and reset the breaker.

On 20AMP it is a "one big appliance" rule. Small appliances are the fridge, computers, TV, etc., and we can normally ignore their electric load, but on 20AMP or less they can matter.

I only ever had 30 amp, and does fine by me. I don't have a TV, just use the propane stove and oven (stove top espresso pot and a French press. Iron frying pan and a steel pot. Does just great.) Let my hair dry naturally. Open the windows, unless it's really hot ot cold. I'm just naturally have a "low carbon footprint" I guess. Also, I work from home, so I'm not much of a sight seer, as long as I don't have traffic, drug addicts and crazy people all around (urban camping) I'm pretty happy!

Ummmmm, Larry, it seems to me that you've now been in two campgrounds where they've not had services you expected. 😊 You might want to try Howard's suggestion to phone ahead and ask questions.

Aren't you on your new lot up north?
Hope you have sunshine. Hi to Rita.

I forgot... my TV, hair dryer, curling iron, flat iron, make up, pressure cooker, air conditioner, coffee pot...am I over 30 amps? I dont want to be a diva at all but I know when I get into a campground and not have to work that day I would have my hair up in a pony and no make up on.

CoastalChick, you can have any 2 of you items, the 3rd will probably cause the campground to lose power..... it usually just trips the power pedstal breaker.

There are a lot of people that wish they could sit in front of a tent and watch the river go by and the eagles soar.

That's why I don't have a TV.... addicting like drugs, and will brainwash you just the same. Coffee can be made on the propane stove, they make stovetop pressure cookers. I can watch movies on DVD, You Tube on my cell phone and laptop. You can still be a girly girl, just more organic. Make up doesn't take power. Blow dryer, curling iron AND a flat iron? Girl friend, that's follicular torture, and it is time to learn to love the hair your were born with!

No we are at South Bend, WA with our grand ladies,(They are to old to be called Grandkids) then off to Tokland or your place-Not sure yet.
We didn't buy the place up north to spend a lot of time on, but needed a piece of land with an address so we could update our WA DL.
UpDate on 30 amps. We are getting along fine and have stopped the panic-of course DW hasen't used the hairdryer yet, if that won't work then I know a pair that will be moving again.LOL

Sounds like a dream spot to me! No TV needed that close to the ocean, give me high tide over TV any day!!!☺

Were just getting ready to go full time and I'm a TV junkie but I'm really hoping to watch way less and get out and enjoy the things we have for free in front of us, that we never take the time to enjoy!
