Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

I Thought I Was Free of California....

So I take the Fleetwood Fiesta to the Nevada DMV, and they say, "Where's the California registration?" I look around, and say, "Uh, I dunno... "

The deal is, I was planning on taking off ASAP, and I used my Nevada forwarding address, expecting I could pick up the Cal. reg. when I got here, but no, it was not in the mail. So I called the credit union it is financed through, and they looked into it, and found out they did not have the title! Turns out, the RV dealership I bought it from didn't send any of the paperwork to the DMV yet! I bought this RV in mid-May, and have been making payments and insurance. The credit union lady was pissed, saying, they could take legal action. I believe she will follow up on this, because I know the dealership does not want to jeopardize their relationship with the credit union.

OK, but that is not the end of the story.... remember when I totaled the Ford Excursion, and damaged the trailer while towing? This same RV dealership did an estimate of $6,700 in repairs for the trailer, and State Farm cut me a check, and I used that, plus traded in the damaged trailer towards this Class A. On the way out here to Nevada, I get a call from the dealership, saying they found more damage, and were re-issuing an estimate to State Farm, to get more $$$. I said, "well, it's your trailer now",  and they're like, "we just want to keep you in the loop". I figured, they were waiting for me to leave, before they tried to hustle State Farm for more $$$. OK, whatever.

Today, I get a call from State Farm about "my" trailer, and how now it looks like it is totaled; I said, "it's not my trailer, it now belongs to the RV dealership". The State Farm guy said, "The registration shows you as the owner, and the dealership as the lien holder." Huh? The lien holder was the same credit union, they financed the trailer, then the loan for that rolled into the Class A...

Maybe they did not do the DMV paperwork for the trailer yet either? In any case, I need to go through the papers, and see what is going on. I'm hoping they didn't pull a shady deal on me!

Well, I guess if I am still technically the owner of the trailer, and they get it declared "totaled", the $$$ should come to me, right? I am planning on calling the lady at the credit union Monday, and seeing what she found out, as she is in a good position to find out what's really going on, and put pressure on them if need be.

Sounds like you had the same dose of luck we have. Maybe when we get everything settled I will post the story on our blog. Good luck with everything.

crycry I'm thinking you may have a case for fraud here!!! I would seek out some legal advice. Some of these dealers pull some of these crooked deals and the buyer ends up with no recourse. The "AS IS" certificate is the catch 22!!! Hope all goes well.

Jane, this sounds similar to our dealer experience. Pay special attention to Howard's reply.

OK, so this is a rather typical scheme it seems. I am aware of the shark like personalities at this RV dealership. I do have pre-paid legal (not the same as a real lawyer, but they can give advice and send letters), and I will follow up with the folks at the credit union, because they are the ones that need to be paid for the trailer.

Been thinking about you and wondering if you have had any resolution over the past week?

Well, apparently, there was some stuff that needed to be cleared up with the previous owners financing through a different bank, and allegedly, the gal in charge of the title/registration paperwork submitted it last week. I am going to call Cal. DMV tomorrow, and see if they got it. If so, I'll put in a change of address, and get it sent here to Nevada. If it is still "in process" by the end of this week, I'll just take it in to Nevada DMV, and see if I can register it with the slip of paper taped to the window.
