Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Overwhelming sadness, and overwhelming kindness

My 15 month old German Shepherd pup, the absolute love of my life, died yesterday.  He stopped eating Wednesday, Thursday he was lethargic and didn't eat, I took him to the vet Friday.  They checked him for everything, his bloodwork was good, everything was ok, and determined he had a virus. Gave him fluids and something for his fever.

Yesterday, he didn't look good - I called the vet  - and in the meantime, he laid down, and died.

Of course my fiancé was in Missouri.  I had to go ask the campground owner to help get this 80 pound dog out of the RV.  Brian gently got him, wrapped him in a blanket, we took him down to the Frisbee field that Odin loved to play ball in.  Brian let me pick a spot under a tree that Odin liked to lay under to catch his breath, and Brian dug a hole and gently buried my sweet boy.  He found a large flat rock for a headstone.

I am just overwhelmed with sorrow....but forever grateful that the owner of this KOA is a kind man and helped me out.

Now I grieve.

Rest in peace and run free, Odin.  You were the best boy ever.

So very sorry to hear of your loss.  He is waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge.  Be comforted in knowing that he is chasing balls and running in the fields with no illness.  Hugs coming your way.

I am so very sad to hear of your loss and the pain you have endured as a result. I can only wish that the monumental kindness shown by that gentleman will be a source of comfort. Richard

Thank you all.

Yes, the guy that owns this campground runs it with his wife, his teenage son, daughter, and his retired parents.  The wife, son and daughter were out of town, and he was up to his eyeballs in campers.  And then in walks me, in tears and apparently white as a ghost, asking for help. I apologized what seemed 1000 times...........and he said "this is much more important than the campground".  I thought that was just the kindest thing ever.  I have offered to deliver firewood, escort incoming campers........I don't know enough to man the front desk............he says no, its the least he can do.

He held my hand and hugged me after he buried my dog.  He even cried with me.  He has stopped by numerous times to make sure I am ok.

What a wonderful man.

If you are ever in the Chattanooga area, please visit the KOA Lookout Mountain WEST.  And if you do, go down to the Frisbee field and say hello to my darling Odin.

We are so very, very sorry to hear about your loss - especially since we have a German Shephard ourselves. Although your puppy was with you for such a short time, her memory will live on in your heart and I so hope you will find peace with that in time. What a blessing to have someone help you in your time of need - I am honored to be associated with RV folks, I think any one of us would do the same - your KOA friend should remind us all to always be compassionate towards each other. Anyway, honor your grief and find peace in your own time.

I'm so sorry for your way too soon loss, and that you had to go through it without your lifemate physically with you. Loosing a family member is always difficult.

How wonderful that there was a such a caring soul nearby to help make the logistics easier. A true blessing.

May you find peace & comfort in the time ahead of you,
- Cherie

Now that's the kind of above and beyond help; we should all support. Where is this KOA? Let's all camp there and show appreciation. May God bless that kind owner! So sorry for your Odin loss! LeO

KOA Lookout Mountain WEST in Trenton Georgia, just down the road from Chattanooga.  It would be on your way for those going to the rally next year.  There is another KOA Lookout Mountain right off I-75, that is NOT it......that one gets horrific reviews and people pull in here and say *whew* that was a terrible place!

Here you go, a shameless plug.  ;)

http://koa.com/campgrounds/lookout-mtn-west/

IF you would stop here, please tell them why, the overwhelming generosity of the owner during a fellow campers time of need.

Thanks all.

I miss my dog.

KOA Lookout Mountain WEST in Trenton Georgia may well be on our way to Florida after the rally in Franklin, NC. Hope so. My thoughts are with you, Scrappy. I've shared life with three beloved German Shepherds over the years, each of whom graced my life with more joy than I can describe. Judy's and my thoughts are with you as you go through those stages of grief the therapists talk about and the rest of us too often experience.

Thank you, Bill and Judy.

Coming from NC, it would be a little out of your way, but no more than about ten miles.  Im guessing you would come 24 to 75 south towards Atlanta?  This one is at 24 and 59 which goes to Birmingham, but its not much past I75.

I keep coming across pictures of Odin on my phone, on my computer, on my laptop.................its haunting.

We're sooo sorry to hear about your loss. We too are trying to mend our hearts, we lost our older gentleman (dog) last week. We miss him, he lived 12 years. That is so touching reading about the owner of the KOA. Obviously, a wonderful person, we will definitely stop in our travels.
