Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I know there are a few good Ext Svc Warr companies to choose from, but what about straight RV insurance (similar to homeowner's or renter's)? Good Sam? Progressive? Who do the RV-Dreams community recommend for FTers?
Howard's insurance page will help. They have gone through Miller Insurance Agency in Oregon. As I write this, I'm waiting for Marlene to call me back so I can finalize our insurance through them. We'll have full-time coverage with full replacement value (based on the purchase price of our RV) and it will be with National Interstate.
I've heard good things about Progressive, but I've not seen better prices or coverage. One that quoted Progressive to us couldn't provide full replacement coverage. From things I've heard about GMAC through Good Sam's, service at the time one needs a claim is horrific. Someone in Texas mentioned that GMAC had to have photos and the guy that went out didn't know anything about RV's, thus he stated that the roof of the RV "should be capable of being replaced for about $1000." While the GMAC price might have been $100 less than National Interstate, I don't think it would be worth the hassle of dealing with folks not familiar with RV's.
Good luck with your searching. If you want a bit of help, use the "Search" function in the blue bar at the top of the forums and put in RV insurance. I'd bet you'd get LOTS of threads dealing with this topic.

Sorry Terry i have to disagree on GS and GMAC. My brother and I had a claim in 1999 when the wind came up unexpectedly and literally blew the awning over the camper. Called and was told to take it to the RV repair center of our choice. Got one quote and it was called in to GMAC. We left the Motorhome there and 1 week later it was ready.
I then had a dump truck loose a stone which broke the windshield; called told to take it for a quote; called in by the glass Shop and at no cost to me was installed. I have personally used GS Insurance since 1999 and never had rates increased for comprehensive.
But then again I have been fortunate of no accidents; for liability; property or injuries. Others may chime in. If I only hear of a handful of bad luck experiences; it don;t concern me much. But when I heard the nightmares of a few other major companies; i steered clear.

FWIW, thus far we have received OUTSTADING service from Progressive over the past 7 years. We only have great things to say about the service, the pricing and the coverage which we consider to be excellent in all three regards.YMMV
We went thru Miller Insurance and ended up with Progressive. Been with them since 2008. Just renewed our policy and the premiums increased from $1600/yr. to $2200/yr. A huge increase. Miller Ins told me Progressive had the highest jump of all the companies they carry. I lowered our total replacement value to offset the increase. FWIW, they told me if we switched policies we would lose the total replacement rider. Here's hoping next year they don't pull the same thing...

We went through Progressive.com and choose what we wanted on our insurance for our MobileSuite in 2011. I don't know of any other service that has pick and choose of whatever your want, Without someone talking your ear off about what they Think what you need for what you have. I can figure what I want all by myself and don't need to be Babysat. Have not had an increase as of yet. We have been very satisfied with what we choose at reasonable price for what we wanted. And hope to never have a claim.
We just switched from Poliseek to Millers, and from National Interstate to Nationwide. When I wanted to price shop at policy renewal time, Poliseek didn't want to take the time to research how much my policy would be at renewal time, and get me other quotes, so we called Miller and got quotes from them. Nationwide (Victoria) came in cheaper so we switched.
We just switched to Millers and I've been very happy with their customer service. When we were first researching which state to select for our domicile they were willing to run a few numbers on the states we were considering so we could take that into account in our cost comparison. Not all agencies were willing to do that and while I could have done that online, that also takes time and since we were painting the house, purging stuff, and dealing with so many other things, it was nice to leave the research to the professionals. When we officially switched to FT, they again did the research to make sure we got the best price for the coverage we wanted.
We just recently changed over to Miller's Insurance as well, although we are with National Interstate. They seemed to be the best for allowing us to insure at full replacement value based on our purchase price, not a "current value" or having to jump through hoops to get a "set" value for replacement. It seems that having a nearby tree fall during a storm is a good incentive for one to "upgrade" their insurance.
