Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello my name is Leslie, and my husband I have always dreamed of living life on the road, maybe working at camp ground or Park stores etc. only the way. His job of 20 years ends in just a few weeks he's 61 and has worked on computers from home for all these years and after a health scare years ago, we have decided why wait!!! Our daughter has started he own life she 19 and we have no reason to wait! We decided we can live life in a home when were old, why do it now! So I'm excited to find sights like this, trying to find a starting point!! He's been looking online for motor home for years so we know what we want just need to take that big step, then they will be no stopping us. The housing market in ID is strong homes selling within days of being on the market, so now is the time to sell.
How did you all decide what you wanted to keep and what should go?? Also what you would take along the way with you??
Looking forward to having time to check out this sight more.
How exciting. Welcome to the forum. We crammed so much into our 5th wheel, we've unloaded along the way and are still offloading even though we had prior rigs for part timing. Because I like to cook I needed/wanted major pantry, counter and refrigerator space which we got on our last rig.
It may sound crazy but a couple of things we love that we kept with us is our china and silver. The kids all had their own patterns so I just bought those quilted china storage containers online and put the dinner plates in them with little felt dividers between them and a sofa pillow packed in front with cabinet doors velcro closed when we move. We hand wash everything so why not? i didn't use it much in our stick and bricks because it couldn't go in the dishwasher. If something breaks (which it hasn't yet) we have plenty. That and nice placemats make our meals special. I did keep two place settings of plastic plates and regular silver wear to take for pot lucks.
Think about what you love and remember if you don't have your onboard washer and dryer, there are laundries everywhere.

Welcome to the RV Dreams forums. If you are looking for answers, you have found a good source for answers. The folks here are knowledgeable and friendly. Feel free to ask any question that comes to mind as we all tend to learn from each other....even from the mistakes of others.
As for what to keep and get rid of, that is not an easy answer. Since most RV's are limited on how much cargo carrying capacity and space they have, a lot of us are looking to get rid of heavy and bulky items. When we began the purging stage, we looked at things and sold or gave away most things that we hadn't used in some time.
While it is tempting to keep sentimental things, it is sometimes hard to trade off the weight versus the desire to keep an item.
Good luck with your research and planning.
Terry
