Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I am retired Army and looking to find the right rig and spend some time in Alaska fishing and seeing the sights next year. This forum is a wonderful resource for novice like myself and I am looking forward to learning about RVing from those of you kind enough to share your insight and experience.
For the kind of Alaska camping that is good for fishing, you want small and dry camp friendly. You want small, probably under 30', to get into tight spots. You want dry camp friendly because many of those spots do not have hookups, so you need to be able to supply your own water, sewer tanks and electricity. We saw lots of truck campers in Alaska, often on 4WD pickups. Of course we went with a 40' diesel pusher towing a small SUV, which we would do again, but we were playing tourist and not fishing.

MarkS: That app is not from that website, it is from AllStays, so it might have different info than the website. I know the person who maintains http://www.militarycampgrounds.us/ and Larry wrote a Windows program, but no app. BTW: The Allstays app is also available for Android, but I know you don't care.

I wondered how the all stays name got on that app. I had it back when it looked like the website and an update changed it to all stays. It is a free app at the app store. I DO care about android apps. Not much, but I do care. Actually, care might be too strong a word. In hindsight, you're right. I don't really care.

Hi and welcome. Wish i could help but Im new and trying to find my way also. It sounds like you have an awesome plan. Alaska, how beautiful.....Catch one for me when you get there. If I ever get out of here Im planning on blogging my adventures. If you do Id love to follow and see the beauty you will be experiencing.
I may be an Army vet, but I didn't have the determination nor inclination even of making a career of it. The branch that I was in was one that would have a preponderance of hardship tours, and I wanted to get married and start a family.
Alaska is beautiful, although we didn't get to see near enough of it. Our experience was a 12 day cruise and land tour with Royal Caribbean in 2005. I have over 4000 photos of my own from that trip. Speaking of that, digital cameras are our friends.
Feel free to ask any questions, as we all tend to learn from each other, and different questioners can bring new perspectives to an old topic.
Good luck with the research and planning
Terry
