Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Has anyone used this type of cooking top. They have been added as standard equipment on the DRV Elite fifth wheel. Do you like it and what type of pots and pans do you use?
make sure you replace ALL your cookware with induction type only.........induction rangetops require full contact type cookware with special bottoms to insure no warping or bowing from heat.
to test your cookware add a 1/2 to an inch of water to the pan and place the heat on high , when the water comes to a boil you should see an even complete boil pattern on the base of the pan......warped or bowed pans only boil on the outside edges or wherever firm contact of the pan is being made
failure to use the correct cookware will result in damage to the cooktop that will not be covered under warranty...(first hand info from the Service Tech.)

We have a Samsung induction cooktop in our home. I'm not crazy about it but I think that's more Samsungs fault, not necessarily induction cooking. We had to have one burner replaced and its just underthree years old. With a pan on it it heats up quickly and cools down immediately. I would read reviews for your brand. All that said, we're planning on buying an induction burner for extra cooking.

Thanks for the info and I understand about the pots and pans and none of our at this time qualify at the present. DRV gives you a starter set and I have found some specv fically made for just induction cooking. I now have gas stoveand like how quickly it heats and cools, so it sounds like the induction will be like that without the possibility of a gas leak and it is more energy efficient and easy to clean.
Jo and I have considered those back when we were in a home, but we never got one because here in Oklahoma, there are occasions when the electricity can be out for as much or more than a week at a time. Even knowing that I had a generator for emergencies, I could never get myself to the point that I could feel comfortable with an electric only cooktop.
If you were to ever want to boondock for a day or two without a generator, you'd need a different source for cooking.

Love love love our induction hob - we have a portable one. It heats up quickly and is very responsive to turning the power up and down (like gas), has hardly any heat loss - which makes the interior of the RV so much more comfortable. And even while running off batteries, it's pretty darn efficient.
You don't really need 'special' cookware - just anything that is magnetic. I just take a magnet with me into the store - if it sticks to the bottom of the pan, it's good. (Since I always carry my iPad with me, I just use my Smart Cover to test.)
I use our induction portable burner every day! Ours is now three years old. Looks like new and performs the same as day one. It is a Burton. Like Cherie, I love it as it does not heat up the interior of the coach. I use a magnetic money clip, which is now my method of selecting cookware. If we ever replace a cooktop, all burners will be induction.
I equate it to having a microwave surface burner. It heats up fast and is off instaneously. Love it!!!!!!

We have two small portable Induction Cooktops that we use in our RV all the time and love them . Th cookware has to be magnetic and this is not always easy to find and is quite expensive. We found what we needed at TJ Max at a resonable cost. Be sure to take a small magnet with you when you go looking and test it on the bottom . If it is not magnetic I doubt if it will work.... Alan
