Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Questions for a new tow setup.

Hello everyone,

 

  We are getting ready to purchase a new towbar and braking system. I have talked to a few people and got qoutes from a few shops and am trying to figure out what others thoughts were. We are currently interested in a Roadmaster Sterling towbar and a SMI Stay and Play Duo. With the towbar I wanted ease of use in case of emergency my wife can easily attach on or take off. It appears that it is a good choice there. The brake system I hadn't heard of before going to a local dealer named Hitch Pros. It looks and sounds great as it stays on the vehicle at all times. I was wondering if any of you had used this and what your thoughts are. We are going to be using my 2006 Honda CRV as our toad. Still looking for ideas if anyone has any on this.    Rick

We have the Sterling and it works well, we got it in May 2012. The alternate is the Blue Ox Alladin, which we had on our CRV. We had worn out our Alladin and went for the new Sterling since we were two hours from Roadmaster. I slightly prefer Blue Ox because it really is hidden, but the non-binding latches on the Sterling are really nice as is the cable routing if you get the new tow cables with the knobs on the car end.

SMI makes good products since I know many happy owners, mostly of the Airforce One that is only for diesel motorhomes. We have the Roadmaster Invisibrake, which works but it will not allow a true trickle charge line so we have to pull a fuse in the tow car of have a dead battery.

We have been researching the very same thing in regards to the brake system. We have decided on the M & G system for ours. We have a diesel coach but they do have a system for gas coaches as well. Their system mounts onto and behind the master cylinder on the toad but is not compatible to all vehicles. They do have a list on their website of which vehicles it will work on as well as prices and descriptions of their system.

Like Bill stated SMI also makes the Airforce One system and this was a close second in my research.

Thank you both Bill and Phil for your imput. I looked up the M & G setup and see that Hitchpros is also a dealer for that. I will ask them some questions about it.
