Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Slides leaking?

We have just bought our 32TK3 Mobile Suites 5th wheel in the late summer and have not been able to use it yet. We winterized it and upon checking it today found the carpets are wet in the back area of the living room. It seems to be wet from both back corners of the opposing slides to the back wall. There are no water marks on the walls or any trim pieces inside. This is the first unit we've had with slides, are they prone to leaking? It is a 2008 model, would the seals be worn out after 5 years? Any input from people in the know would be greatly appreciated. :

Welcome to the forum, no, they are not prone to leaks and after 5 years there should not be a problem.

Not sure of your snow load , but if you have a large Ice & snow load on the roof you could be causing bowing of the unit(snow & ice can add 20 pounds per square ft to the roof) and it would cause the seals to twist just enough to cause a leak....also check your vent area for Ice-over this causes ice dams and water will walk up the seam into the coach........it is very important to cover or tarp roofs in the north for these reasons.

If the slides were in tight while stored, I would not expect that they were leaking. You might check the seal around the back window as that could be leaking. The water may run down the inside of the wall and wet the carpet at the back of the unit. You might also check the seals around the lights in the back and also the seal where the rubber roof meets the fiberglass rear cap. Any of those places can leak and allow water inside the wall where it can travel down and find its way inside the trailer at the base of the back wall.
Depending on how long the water has been on the floor, you may want to have a dealer check the floor and make sure that the plywood has not been damaged where it would begin to separate or rot out.

Ron,

It looks like you are already getting some good information here.  As a little more time goes by, you will likely get a lot more.  In case you go to checking, I sent you a private message about moving this thread to this category from the "RV Accessories."  When you log in, you will see a message indicating that you have received a private message.  Just click on that message indicator to be taken to the message area.

We had two leaks in our first year at the rear of the large slider of our Montana. The first was noticed after I washed the top of the slider and both sides of the slider awning. We had water inside our cabinets. The tape that runs along the top of the slider had started to lift at the edge just before it runs down the side wall to the trim.

Our other leak was noticed by wet carpet and this turned out to be the window at the rear side wall of the slider requiring re sealing.

Good luck!
