Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra TRD 4 door, V8 truck. We are looking at a towable Passport; dry weight 4850; hitch weight 540; length 29'. Our towing capacity is listed at 7700 lbs. I would love some feedback on whether this may be too much trailer for our truck. Thanks
is it a factory tow package.......if it is it will be on the sticker on the door or in the glove box.........is there a trans cooler and oil cooler on the truck
I noticed you are out of denver...so that puts you in an area that I consider extreme towing because of the long mountain passes

As for your truck capacity, I suggest going to a toyota dealer and have them look at the data plate on the driver's side door post. The information there will let them determine what your truck's actual capacity actually is. I always tell folks to not go by the "towing capacity" because that can lead one to being overweight overall. Instead, what you want to know is the GCVW (Gross Combined Vehicular Weight) and then the GVWR (Gross Vehicular Weight Rating) of both the truck and the trailer. Once you have the two GVWR ratings, to include passengers and cargo in the truck and all stuff in the trailer, add those two weights together to make sure you don't go over the GCVW weight.
I can say that if I were to go to the maximum "towing capacity" on my truck, I would be overweight on GCVW. If you are going with a travel trailer, be sure you have an equalizing hitch and an anti-sway bar system. No one likes a fishtailing trailer out on the highway.
