Alright this is an all in one thread...

First, Is there any issue renewing a passport with a SD address?

Second, I currently have a CCP, concealed carry permit, issued by the state of NC. When it comes time to renew, what is the process in SD? Is there a complete do-over, or is it like a renew it in your home state?

I read this site most every day and love it. So much great information on the one of these days full-timer.

I can say that as far as the CCP laws in some states may be different than getting a new drivers license.

I just relocated to Tn. from Mississippi and was told when I got my DL the CCP from Ms I now have is good for six months from the date of the new DL and is valid.

Like many other government things, some states have a reciprocity agreement and others don't. I'd ask both SD and NC whether there is a reciprocity agreement. If they both give you the same answer you can probably believe it. If they give opposite answers you're on your own.

I'm not sure that reciprocity is the answer when one changes states of domicile. Granted, as long as there is reciprocity, one doesn't have to be so fast about following the new state's laws regarding concealed carry. However, keep in mind that reciprocity is not universal. Use the map at the link below to see what states recognize each other state's permits. Keep in mind that to change to a different domicile state (i.e. SD instead of NC), one needs to click on the heading "States That Honor My Permits" for each state you want to check.

For instance, North Carolina's permit is honored in all but 19 states and territories. South Dakota's is honored in all but 28 states and territories.

I'm not sure where to look to find out how long one has to apply when establishing domicile in South Dakota. One question to ask of someone is residency requirements. The SD Secretary of State's document states that one must reside in the county of application for at least 30 days. However, would that include an RV'er that doesn't really stay in the state? Does South Dakota require a physical permanent address, or would a mail service address be sufficient. I suggest asking one of those services to help with those questions.
