Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Today, when planning a trip to any RV Parks, Campgrounds, Corp of Engineers locations, or state and federal parks you’re always going to have to call ahead to inquire about site sizes if they are not listed in the on-line directories. 

Our trailer is 38’ and the combined length when it’s hooked to the trailer is 53’. Here are some examples of just how large some sites can be. This first one is a seclude site at Myrtle Beach SP, SC.

This huge back-in site is at Natchez Trace SP, TN. On the far left you can see our dish antenna. It’s on our site and located where we can get a signal over the trees.

This photo shows just how close it can get with a large trailer. The Pride parked on our right belonged to our travel companions. It’s 35’ long. The sites were FHU with CATV at a downtown Reno RV Park on motel property.

Howard, my husband and I are preparing for full timing.  At this time we are getting ready to purchase our truck and 5th wheel.  Many of the RV dealers are telling us that if we buy anything over 30 feet we will have a hard time finding parks to accomodate.  We are looking a several that are 39' total length.   What has your experience been?

Hi Ken & Bekki,

Our fifth wheel is 39 feet and we have parked in fantastic places.  Yeah, we can't get back some of the narrow back roads to some National forest campgrounds, but we get in a lot of state and national parks.

Very often, campground websites have incorrect information about length limits.  We always call the campground directly and often are told the website restrictions are outdated or simply wrong.

From experience I can tell you 39 feet won't restrict you too much.  Of course, a good deal of practice to gain confidence in parking helps.  smile

That last picture is NOT a site I would ever consider!!!!!! Others definitely look good!!! Can't wait to get on the road later this year!!!! I love all the postings on this site and great ideas for places, just like you posted here!!! Thanks!!!!
