Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

New find

I don't have a grease separator, but I do have a Lodge cast iron wok that my ex gave me about 20 years ago. Also skillets from 4" to 14", and a dutch oven.

The cast iron is one thing I won't give up when I finally get back on the road, along with real silverware and plates, glasses etc. I can do without a lot of other things, but I refuse to eat off paper or use plastic silverware,  I threw away all the plastic when the kids were old enough to use glass ones without breaking them and never looked back.  Another addiction is Red Wing or Minnesota stoneware, I haven't decided what to do with all the crock mixing bowls yet. My daughters will likely get some of it, but I've been collecting it for 3 decades or more and some of it will have to go.

I have a perfectly good and useable Griswold cast iron griddle that somehow got left in MN when I came south for the winter. So I've been on a quest to find one to use down here, but didn't want to spend a lot of money duplicating something I already own. I've been haunting the flea markets and yard sales for a month, but so far either they were in terrible condition or they were way over-priced. I finally stopped at one of the local antique shops, and found a booth that was loaded with CI. When I saw this beauty I was hooked! And the condition is wonderful! The seller was there doing inventory and he said he always cleans the CI well and seasons it so it's ready to go for the new owner. It's the first hammered CI Griswold I have come across, and it was whispering sweet nothings into my ear so of course I had to bring it home with me.  :D  (I'm one of those people who get emotionally attached to inanimate objects, which is why my house looks like an antique store.) This one will live with me in the camper and I'll gift the other one to one of my daughters.

Oh no, I can't let Hubby see this post! :) Griswold cast iron! It's an addiction. I have 5, different sizes, along with a Dutch oven and a fish fryer. Every time we go to antique store or flea market he's hunting up Griswold. I tell him I have plenty but what can I say, he's a metallurgist! I have numerous other "non-Griswold cast iron also. :)

Great posts on this. We have quite a bit of Lodge cast iron but your Griswold is a beauty. Is it better?
A cast iron grease separator? Only you, Mike!

I got hooked on cast when I was a kid......my Grandmother and mother would have nothing else , so needless to say I learned To cook with it, clean it and what was the good stuff. The Grease Separator was my grandmothers used to sit on the old wood & coal stove for separating the bacon drippings.

A few years back she passed on and my mom saved it and the cookie jar that I so adored as a kid!!!!!.........

That makes it that much more valueable, at least to me! Most of my cast iron is family stuff, the rest came from farm sales and now the griddle from an antique shop.  I'm happy to report that it does home-made tortillas for burritos beautifully!  smile

I guess it should!!  Down around San Antonio it is called a comal, and is specifically for tortillas (although it does other things well also.

Note to self: it has been discovered that the DW is not mentally ill when it comes to cast iron. Instead, she is a member of a cult!
