Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Mobile Internet Gadgetry for RVers Overview

Hey all.. we recently posted an article to our blog that graphically outlines our internet on the road setup, and thought we'd share it here in case anyone is in a research mode.  We try our best to explain all of the options in non-tech speak, including an illustration of how it all comes together:

Illustrated Mobile Internet Gadgetry for RVers

We also did a livestreamed video presentation the other evening overviewing all the basic options - cellular, WiFi and satellite, as well as explaining our own setup. We moved the archive over to YouTube, for those seeking a primer on the topic.  (Warning: It's almost an hour long.)

We have absolutely no affiliation with any of the products we talk about, just enjoy sharing our own research and experience. We depend on mobile internet to be able to continue running our software business as we full time RV.

Happy Holidays all!

Do you ever run workshops or seminars at RV rallys or shows? This would be an excellent topic! Your website is fantastic and the information you share is priceless. Thanks so much for sharing!

Hi Cheryl -

When we attend rallies ourselves, we will usually volunteer to run a Q&A session or talk on a variety of subjects (mobile internet, lithium ion batteries, etc.). But it's not a focus for us, just something fun we enjoy doing to give back to our RVing and bus communities.

Thank you for the compliment tho.. that's very touching :)

With the changing technology I was wondering if there is any up to date info out there. Getting ready to set up as a mobile photography business and living full time in an RV. Need advice on what is current. Thanks in advance.

Perfect timing, Pflug -

We actually just.. as in this morning.. launched our brand new eBook called:

The Mobile Internet Handbook

It's 85 pages of info on everything we've learned about keeping connected while on the road. It covers cellular options, satellite, WiFi, boosting equipment, setting your expectations and managing your bandwidth.

And about as up to date as you're going to get :)

Use coupon code 'LaunchSpecial' this week to save $2 when buying the PDF or ePub formats... or you can also get it on Amazon Kindle.

Enjoy!

- Cherie

Thanks Cherie & Chris! Your website was a great resource during our research. We're nicely connected now with WiFi and Cellular Internet hookups.

I previewed "The Mobile Internet Handbook". IMO it is the best resource available on the topic at the present time. Well worth getting. It really should answer any questions one has about connecting on t. he road. And most importantly it is written in an understandable fashion, so even novices will "get it". If you are developing a connectivity solution for travelling, this is a "must read" IMO.

Wow! What a great book. I already ordered it before I saw the coupon code, but it doesn't matter; its worth every penny.

I purchased the book on Amazon.com as soon as I read your posting, although I have not opened it yet -- I wanted to say a proactive thank you for creating the book. I am certain that I will find the book a helpful reference as we continue to plan for options/additions to our future home.

I do the same, Bill. I also have a link on my website in my Communications section. If one reads their book first, then my info makes more sense, since it tends to be more technical and specific in nature.

Thank you both so very much, Bill and Jack!

That was exactly our goal... to create a resource that helps folks who need a good overview of the options & considerations. We are thrilled it has hit that mark.

Not only has it hit the mark, it excels at meeting the requirements for an educational book about Internet options. Anyone looking for training on what the best options for Internet on the Road are should buy this book. It is not expensive, and it will save you all kinds of time. And probably some mistakes...which will cost you far more than the book.
