Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

My wife and I are researching before buying a fulltime motor home.  I have read alot about RV roofs in the form. It seems most people compare fiberglass and rubber.  I saw a ad for local RV for  2005 Holiday Rambler Endeavor looking at the specs it has a alum roof.  Looking for comments and idea's about alum.  Do these roof require yearly painting like the old mobile home trailers?  Also thinking of denting while walking on it and if painting is required... how do you keep the sealer from streaking down the side of the motorhome..  Thanks for any input.

Even if it is aluminum I would coat it white just for heat reasons......all roofs require some sort of sealant and I have yet to own a coach that doesnt streak from the roof due to water, dirt and oxidation up there.......I will say that the old roof sealants .....silver Koolseal and just silver and black sealants in general did oxidize quiker and made bigger stain problems.

Any one want to comment on alum roof vs rubber and fiberglass? Yes Mike I agree they all will require upkeep and white is a good idea. But I guess one of my questions is, How does alum hold up compared to fiberglass and rubber? If you have to be up walking around does the alum dent and buckle from walking around vs rubber and fiberglass. Seems most companys do not use alum anymore even Holiday Rambler is putting fiberglass on their Endeavor for 2014.

My 2005 Monaco Diplomat is a fiberglass roof and holds up well to foot traffic. If you use a 303 protectant a few times a year you won't have any streaks running down the sides of you rig.

I have a friend that has a class c with a rubber roof and has put several tears in it from low hanging branches. Thats a lesson in watching what you're doing, RV's and trees don't get along even with the strongest roof.

Our Diplomat also has a fiberglass roof. Never caused any streaking and I do not treat it with anything. Has handled me walking on the roof and I'm not small. I like the fact that it doesn't require anything more than a wash once in a while.

A good fiberglass roof is best IMO, regular cleaning and a periodic coat of wax or Mop and Glow keeps it looking good with no streaks down the side.
