Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello....we are Canadians from Ontario. House being sold and we will be full timers going south in winters. However we do want a true 4 seasons unit best for cold winters in case we have to return in winter or leave late from here to go south etc.
3 QUESTIONS:
We are considering buying a new Dynamax Trilogy but have heard the A/C is noisy and can't find out the insulation "R" factor in the roof. Would like to hear from any owners on this. Also with the propane tank being not removable is it a hassle and big cost to get it filled.
Our other option is a used Mobile Suites which I didn't like as much however know DRV is good on insulation and well built etc. However more expensive
Hi Dianne......there is alot of information on both of these units in our search engine.......this has been a very common thread this year exactly as you have just asked.
simply just enter it into the upper search engine and it will bring it up.
Welcome to the forum

There was quite a bit of discussion about the Trilogy, some of which was pretty negative. In addition, I happened to find a couple of units here locally to check out since I wasn't finding the information I wanted online either. So, I took some pictures of the two models that were here and created a blog post on my blog. A link to my "review," if you will, was posted in the above linked thread and also is here:
Diane, welcome to the RV Dreams forum. You might want to look at the Heartland Landmark that offers R23 insulation in the roof, dual 15,000 BTU whisper quiet fully ducted air conditioners and is warranted and rated for full time use.
We love ours and have been living in it without issues for over a year. Good luck in your search.
"whisper quiet" RV air conditioners? Where did you find those? Currently, the quietest rooftop AC unit is the Coleman Mach 8, and I would not consider it "quiet". In fact, I know of no "quiet" rooftop AC units. However, the Coleman is "quieter"..... :)

We are still wannabes, but I'm curious about these A/Cs everyone keeps talking about... about how loud they are. Are they any louder than an old-fashioned window unit in a S&B? If not, then I can probably deal with it. The droning is soothing, and should block out scary noises!
most A/C units are no noisier than a window unit.......even central air in a house makes noise with the condenser outside......like you said the droning....its going to be there with the blower and compressor up there

Mary there very tolerable........of course lack of insulation could make a difference...........suggestion would be to make sure you get to operate it before buying , ......one persons tolerance is another's nitemare ........
but on the same thought some people expect to much...............
normally an obnoxious loud A/C is making all that noise because it is struggling for power and the compressor is overworking or it is low on freon....or the condenser outside is dirty or blocked and the unit starts back flooding with freon.....

Before you decide on a coach for full-time use, I'd STRONGLY suggest a factory tour. Look at how the coaches are built, but take what the tour director says with a grain or two of salt. The purpose of the tour is to convince you that their coach is the best. We toured the DRV factory and the Heartland factory a few days apart, and really learned a lot. When we bought our mpg two years ago we were pretty sure that our full-time coach would be a Bighorn or maybe a Landmark (all three brands are Heartland products). If we were to decide on a 5'er, though, it would be a DRV. I saw bare frames for both, and that was enough to make me switch my loyalty.
Don't get me wrong. Heartland builds some nice coaches, and when the inevitable errors are discovered, they stand behind their products. They also have a wonderful owners' club and an active owners' forum.
The a/c in our mpg is very noisy, and the whole unit is either on or off, unlike a normal home or car unit. Don't know what you will find in a 5'er. I would imagine, though, that a ducted system would be quieter than a non-ducted one.
