Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Hi,

We are new to the forum, the website and the idea of full timers rvers....

My husband,mysself and our 2 teen girls (and 2 dogs) have decided that it is time to pursuit our long time dream to become a full time rvers...however as most of you would assume, we have feras, concerns,questions, doubts, you name it- we have it!

We are from canada, and at first would need to stay within our city area, as my husband needs to keep working , at least for the beginning till we have some kind of idea where to go from there. Right now we are kind fo lost between our dreams and the too many questions we have.

We are in the process of purchasing an rv , not knowing if motorhome,fifth or travel trailer...maybe even a toy hauler as our older daughter is an artist and we want ehr to have a little are studio of her own with us.

Unfortuantely we have no spare funds so everything will be financed, if a motorhome then we need just to finance the motorhome, but if it will be fifth or travel trailer, then we need to have both financed and that worries me and bring me back to motorhome decision , money wise.

We are confused as for the income later on when my husband stops regular work, we are confused if we will be able to make it money wise, and we (I) have so many inside fears that it is too overwhelming!

However - we want to do it! All of us!

So...any info, idea,suggestion and so on will be VERY much appreciated and helpful!!!

Welcome to the RV Dreams forums.  You will find this a place for a lot of answers to questions, and perhaps, give solace to some of your fears.  In addition to the information available from the participants of the forums, don't forget to check out the rest of Howard and Linda's website.  On their home page, you will find a link entitled "Site Map" where you can find a lot of topics related to living full time RV'ing.  For instance, they even publish their financial information so that you can get an idea of the expenses that they incur in their travels.  That can give you some valuable insights into costs and contingencies to consider.

Feel free to ask your questions as we all tend to learn from each other in our quests to begin this lifestyle.  Good luck in your research and planning.

Howard and Linda's thread can give you much information on what you need to do. Like everything else in life; research; study; budgeting and expecting the unexpected; as Mike stated above.
I am single and was kind of forced into this lifestyle the first time in 1998 I wanted to, the second time in 2009 was because of downsizing in the place I was working. You can read more of my experiences under "Pieere" in "working and volunteering on the road" and "physical challenges and other health issues." don't know if my blog post; highlighted below still works.

One word of caution.Think long and hard about the enjoyment level if you head out burdened with heavy debt.Things happen just like in sticks and bricks and you will need funds set aside to handle them.Not being negative...just realistic.

Being debt free is a nice way to start out or at least having secured income..........if you finance everything and head out not having a functional plan for income you could wind up in a very bad position.

there are alot of methods for generating income on the road......if this is something you feel you need to do , maybe starting out in an older unit to get your feet wet start with weekends and work your way up.

Break downs happen

lack of work

bad weather



Please.......Take it one step at a time, The nice thing about this site is the amount of help that is available to help in making a decision and the wisdom of those doing it to help along the way
