Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Stay safe Gene, this nor-easter is bringing us some snow showers here a little further south of you. Glad you now have power.  How is your mom?

Believe it or not, the electric is out again......we had it for about 10 hrs, my brother inlaw a few towns away had no power soooooo I brought our generator and all our gas to him, a few Hrs later, No Power. Instead of taking ours back and leaving his family without, I borrowed a smaller generator from a friend of mine...

Glad to hear you got the electricity back on, Gene!  Hope it sticks around this time.  You'll like it way better out here with the rest of us... at least you can run away from bad weather! Hope it comes quickly for you.

Hi there,

We live on long island sufffolk county were it is really bad. Thank god we are okay but friends have lost everything and to this day I am still sick to

my stomach and cry for them. Took a ride down to our park on the water and it is has garbage as high as your eyes can see, peoples life everything

you worked for your  gone. This is a real wake up call to not get attached to material things LIVE YOUR LIFE ALL CAN BE GONE IN A FLASH.

We are retired and have our house up for sale as soon as it is sold we hit the road I pray every night that it will be soon.

Thanks for listening. Chat again soon

Claudia

Since a back-injury in 1985; when I lost the wife; two girls; house and 2 vehicles; I had basically my clothes. Took eight years to get well enough to work; only light-duty jobs. Then in March of 12; became a survivor of a heart attack which caused the loss of employment this past July. If I wouldn't of experienced the loss of the material stuff in 1985; the stress of losing it all would have triggered another.
So here I am again; picking of the pieces and trying to make a fresh start. As long as you have your life; health; food; some clothes and a place to lay your head is what matters.
I wish you the best; hope your house sells and you are on the road soon. I feel sad when I see people go through such destruction and troubles. I have to remember; no matter what my troubles are; some are having it worse. Pieere

Gene, so glad you're back with us. It might be of help to us all if you could describe your experience in detail. I'm a news junkie but I don't feel I've gotten the real experience.
Claudia on PeteG, so sorry for all you've been thru.
Bless you all.

Sherry, I will add a little at a time as time becomes available, if you and others are interested in more of the details I will happily share. Things now are Slowly beginning to return to normal, believe it or not there are still wires and trees down all around our town. Today I stopped by and visited some FEMA Trailers and got water and some food, we really are OK but FEMA has so much stuff left that they are encouraging us to continue to stop by and get supplies. The amount of trees down is astonishing, giant oaks, maples, poplars, and other varieties are laying around like piles of match sticks. We really have to remember that so many families have lost so much, entire homes wiped out, flooded, or burned to the ground, it is a real tragedy, the Holidays will be very hard for so many people. Gas stations have returned to normal, this storm has been a reminder of all the comforts we have and enjoy on a daily basis. I always laughed at the people that take DOMMSDAY precautions, while I think much of it is over the top, to see how little it takes to derail the system and cause people to behave poorly is an eye opener. We have also met great people, neighbors we never spoke to, strangers that became our friends, this storm has brought out the best and the worste in people.

Glad to hear live is starting to assume a little normalcy Gene........I think we all think doomsday planning is a little crazy, until disaster hits home.

Im hoping the world keeps reaching out and those that took it are able to look up, See a solid hand reaching out to pull them up........paying it forward and helping one another is not a difficult task and even if all you have is a hug or hello its worth so much to some!!!

My 29ft fiver manage to handle the 80mph wind even though it was only a mile from the bay area just inside the Sandy Hook peninsula. I haven't seen it yet as I was on a 13 day cruise in the middle of the Atlantic during the storm but have been told by the military storage facility that it has been inspected and all is well. Ironically, I decided not to store it in Key West before my cruise because of hurricane season and decided to store it at the Navy's Earle Weapons Facility.

Gene, thanks for the details you've shared so far. For you others who have also come thru we are so glad. Big storms are the one thing I worry about as we go full-time in our fiver.

I lived in the LA area during the big Northridge earthquake and the devastation in the affected areas was like a war zone that I have heard Sandy compared with.

Keep sharing, folks.

Sherry
