Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Direct TV

Hello Everyone- First want to thank you all, the forum has been so helpful in our journey to full timing.  A special thank you to Howard & Linda- this site is a valuable tool!  I need advice today with Direct TV, when I call, I ask to speak with a CS rep familiar  RVing- they say they are, tell them I have a Winegard Trav'ler HD Auto Satellite for direct tv- they tell me can't use the Winegard with Direct TV....very confused.  Spoke to several levels.   Any advice would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Call them back.......Do not ask to speak with a sales rep or if that is the route they send you ,Request Technical service and speak with them they can give you direction that will solve the problem.

does your coach already have a Direct TV reciever onboard connected to the dish if so pull the card if it is there and give them the number or call a local direct tv installer he can walk you thru what you need or come out and help..................I hate salesmen that want to sell you something but are clueless as to what is needed or what there selling

Mike’s right.  The Winegard (SK-3005) works fine with Direct TV.  Mine does and so do the other 1,000 or so out there.

Now, why are you calling Direct TV yet if you don’t have the RV?  Are you trying to sign up for the Networks (ABC, Fox, CBS, etc.) from the national feeds so you can get them all over the US?  If so you do need to fill out a form.  Physically fill out a form and send it to them.  It’s a Federal Law that this must be done.  It’s on the website.

There is a Direct TV “Mobile” information page but, and I know this sounds strange, it’s about ½ wrong concerning the equipment.  The Winegard SK3005 is an excellent choice and it will work for HD / SD and with or without DVR's.  It can feed up to four tuners - like two DVRs' or one DVR and a non-DVR bedroom reciever.  (This assumes the RV builder ran the cables for it.  You need one cable from the dish for each tuner.  A DVR has two tuners so it take 2 cables.)

Are you trying to establish a new billing address because you are going full time?

Regardless, Direct TV itself, from a service authorization standpoint, could care less what type of antenna you use.  You set that up in the receiver and that is sort of why the regular CSR’s have not a clue.

So a little more info from you and we can, if necessary, help with some additional specific information.

Bill

Winegard customer service assisted us with setting things up with Direct TV. I can't say enough about how helpful she was. Once we had our box and had it installed, we called Winegard, and they got on the phone with Direct TV, and a three way conversation took place. Set-up was a breeze that way. After a year and a half, we are having a bit of an issue with the DVR (sometimes a show doesn't get taped), but we haven't gotten around to calling about it. I'm kind of afraid to call Direct TV directly!

Cool!  Glad it all worked out.

The program not recording issue is usually (not always) related to the DVR “thinking” it is either a repeat / duplicate or was already recorded within a 30 day time period.  It’s pretty reliable but they are not perfect as they rely on the data in the program guide and sometimes that data is simply in error.

I always recommend checking the “To Do List” and confirming that the record assignments are as you expect.

Enjoy.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I work part time (very part time) for a local direct tv dealer. I told them I wanted to work for them because I saw how they treated customers whether they signed up with then or not (they only get paid if customer signs up with them). They give free advice and instructions often. Just a thought....

Is there a known problem with trying to hook up the 1518 Carryout Dish with the H25 HD receiver? I have wired the SWM-8 switch, power insertor and splitter and still cannot get any kind of signal. The dish is brand new and works fine. I just ordered an SD receiver to see if that would work but was hoping to use the smaller H25 from my home base.
