Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Given your and Linda’s desire to stay at as many “It Factor” locations as possible – if you were to start over (or purchase a new rig) would you purchase 39’ or would you consider going shorter or longer than 40’ (i.e., greater living space and you would still be able to stay at those great “It Factor” locations)?
My assumption is you would likely stay at 39’/40'--but I don’t want to make assumptions. We would be very interested to understand your thoughts, particularly related to “It Factor” locations – since that is a very important consideration for the two of us.

A couple things about choosing an RV. First, there is no such thing as a "perfect" RV. Second, with every decision there is some trade-off.
So, though I know that every few feet shorter would expand the number of potential "it" factor places to park, I also know that shorter means less storage space, smaller holding tanks, less roof space for solar panels, perhaps a smaller refrigerator and/or pantry, a more cramped bedroom, and less overall comfort. Without giving all that up, even at 39' 3" from cap to ladder, we do okay on finding great spots to camp.
Now, I have fantasies of traveling around in a truck camper, and some people do full-time that way, but for the long term, that just wouldn't work for us. I'm not sure what the shortest rig would be for our satisfaction, but I'm guessing at least 30 feet and probably more like 35 - 36 feet. There isn't much difference between 30 - 34 feet in where you can park, and likewise, not much difference between 35 - 39 feet.
On the other end, I can't see us in anything larger than we have now. I just can't imagine any reason why we would need anything bigger.
