Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
We've tramped through so many fivers over the last year and we keep coming back to the Heartland Big Country 3690SL. So we had the weekend free and I found that a dealer about 3 hours south of us had one in stock. We made a trip of it and stayed at the beach overnight Friday, dropping by the dealer on Saturday.
We had planned on purchasing in November (have some money coming in) and let the salesman know that while we were looking around the unit. He asked if we wanted to look into short term financing to get into the unit sooner and, more importantly, grab it while it was available. The 3690 is a pretty hot commodity, so I decided to take the plunge. Not sure if everything will fall into place. It seemed a bit silly to finance for two months only to turn around and pay it off, but having a unit close by (relatively) as opposed to driving cross-country to pick up a unit was a big deciding factor.
So, I left them with a bunch of conditions (low down payment, fast turnaround since we'll be flying west to visit family in a couple weeks) that may or may not break the deal. We'll see how well they do. They seem confident that we'll be there this Friday having a hitch installed in the truck (worked that into the deal, as well) as they show us around the unit. They're going to put it on one of their new customer hookup pads and let us spend the night in it Friday night. They'll send a tech out (if needed) on Saturday to address any issues found. Hopefully, we'll be rolling out Saturday afternoon back towards home.
Congratulations! Once you get your new rig, be sure to join the Heartland Owners Forum. There is a sub-forum for each Heartland brand, so you will want to be on the Big Country one as well. This summer is the Heartland Homecoming Rally in Goshen, which will include a factory tour. Get signed up on the forums ASAP and join the owners club, so that you get your invitation to the Rally. Registration will open sometime in late December, and by early January it will be full.
Thanks for the info. We've already joined the HO forum and I've been lurking around. We already decided to join the HOC as soon as possible. Will definitely try to get signed up for the rally. Current plans are to be full-time by then, so very do-able.
It's official! Dealer called right as I got home from work and told me that everything was in order. We'll be heading down Friday so they can put the hitch in the truck and set us up to overnight on the lot to test it out (as well as do inspections and any repairs needed).
We've already started a pile of stuff to take down to put in the trailer (camp gear, clothing, etc.) to start out with. I'm sure I'll have trouble sleeping the next two nights.
Insurance in place and financials in order with the lender. Went with Good Sam RV insurance. Their customer service is top notch and price was almost half my regular insurer's rates for less coverage. Got full replacement rider added on. When we go full time, it's reassuring that we can stay with the same folks.
Sitting in our new unit on the dealer's lot watching a DVD. Cooked hamburgers on the outdoor bistro grill. Only a couple minor issues found so far. Making a list. They're sending out a tech in the morning to address any issues that they can.
Congtats, that is so exciting. We have a 2011 Big Country that we bought last September. We love it. Getting ready to go back into it fulltime next weekend and cannot wait. Have fun with your new home. It is an awesome adventure.
