Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

There is a website called free campgounds.com and another call freecampsites.net, give them a try. You can also try rvnet forum and go to the boondocker thread. Welcome and enjoy the crazy world of work camping and the freedom to go where ever you want to be.

We are finally on the road, stealth camping as we go.  Currently we plan to go back to the stick and Brick in the spring to clean it up and sell it. Just did not have the patience to do that now. We really wanted to get on the road....Bad.

Are travels will take us to Texas in a few weeks ...or So. There I hope to take a gate guard job and live happily ever after.

Currently we are traveling from Atlanta, Georgia to Dodge city, Kansas. We are of the same mind set, we would like to stealth camp or boondock the entire time. Which Leeds me to my Question.

We  would like to stay for around 4 or 5 day,s in Dodge City. Anyone out there familiar with the area?


I am hopping to drop the trailer and camp in the same spot for about a week. Let the dogs run and not see humans. I know that may sound a little much to ask. But I'm asking.

Thank you for this forum, here are the only people I know that don't  consider our ideas of full time RV'ing ....kinda Nuts.

Jim,

I'm not in a position to give you a lot of information about the Dodge City area.  My experience with Dodge was back in the '70's when I drove an 18-wheeler out of there hauling Anhydrous Ammonia from a nearby plant to fertilizer dealers around the state.

Like Pierre said, those two sites might be of help.  I google and found some listings on both sites.  The one that most intrigued me, at least towards your wishes, was sites at Ford County Lake.  The two links below will take you to information on sites in that area.  Ford County Lake is listed on freecampgrounds.com.

I'm not sure there are any campgrounds where you can "let the dogs run" not in the current climate toward possible dog bites.

  Ok, we plotted a coarse for Ford County Lake. Should be there today. It would seem there are a few places to boondock. So we do have a few options.

Also, we have had no problems dumping and refilling our water tank on the major highways. I am waiting to see how it may be refilling water, off the beaten path. Keeping in mind we prefer to stay away from formal camp grounds.

Dodge city, here we come.

We made it !! Our first boondocking experiance.

Our first boondocking experiance.

Well we made it. We travled from Atlanta Georgia to Doge city Kansas. 1,800 miles. Our main ambition was, Not to stay at camp grounds, but to stealth camp and boondock alonge the way. so far that goal has been met.

we filled water and dumped at truck stops. Loves and flying J mostly. The cola is good there also. My daughter likes the rootbeer. I had a little trouble sleeping at first with the sound of truck's all night, and the nomal stress asociated with doing somthing totaly againsed rational thinking. However now that we are boondocking in Dodge city, sleep... is good.

Jim,

I guess you know that we will all expect a full review of the area of Ford County Lake and what you saw in Dodge City.  I could tell some good tales of folks around Dodge from back in the '70's.  Fortunately, most everyone was known by CB radio "handles," so unless those folks are still around and going by those handles, no one would be embarrassed.
