Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

RE: A/C

Thanks Mike I will check the charge as you suggested. I looked at the unit (I am cfc certified) and i did not see any service ports, Is it a closed system with no service ports?

My a/c was replaced 15 months ago because the dealer said it was causing the generator to shorten out. This was a r-22 unit. They installed a r-410 unit. Does not cool down. Example: 86 degree outside, temp at thermostat will not go below 78 deg. Did not fix problem with generator. Have taken it back several times. Each time they say no problem. It runs contineous except at night time when it gets down in the 60's. Any ideas

Welcome to an expert.........need to check unit charge, is the condensor blocked.......faulty t-stat probe is compressor running contiuous or are you hearing just the fans.....

to do a charge check......take the outside temp in front of the condeser.....then you need to take the high side liquid temp......this is mesured with a contact thermometer 6 inches from the compressor ...it will be the line that is hot.....the temp of this line will be roughly 30 degrees greater than the outside air temp..........

the best way to make sure it is being tested rite is to find a real HVAC/R Tech that works on equipment ....not on only one brand........HVAC/R mechanics are like good engine mechanics..........they will work on anything because at its core its all the same.......and to repair things once you have a firm understanding of its mechanics and principle the rest is easy

Working on A/c requires understanding gas principles under pressure and specialized tools......R- 410 A gas is VERY dangerous to the novice , the pressures are alot higher than most older refrigerants........do not attempt to connect a set of guages or tamper with the sealed system There is a very good reason they make us get a lic. to do this type of work!!!

Donnie........the unit will not have service ports...........please check your charge by using a super heat method as exsplained in my first post.....a sealed systems pressures are tested via super heat temps and subcools...........any time you attach to any system you have to replace the charge you remove by opening it...The Charge for 410 a is critical and a 20 lbs cylinder is 360 dollars ...........are you 608 certified or 608a...........you also must be certified for 410a......the gas pressure involved is dangerously higher than most gasses and requires special gages and hoses to atempt to open the system

Again if you need to open the system please Refer the work to a lic. HVAC/R Tech with a federal universal Endorsement........anyone who is lic. will be more than happy to reach in his wallet and hand you his lic...........we cannot buy the gasses or carry the equipment with out it being on our person at all times!
