Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Question concerning the fixed ladder on RV's

For those of you that have the removable lower section on your fixed roof ladder do you remove & store each time you move location? Or have you attached it so you don't have to remove & store?

My assumption is that it is removable to keep unwanted climbers off your roof.  We seldom have need to make the trek "upstairs" and simply allow the lower section to ride inside a basement compartment.  I doubt it has precluded any "climbers", as there is nothing up topside to interest anyone not instered in washing our roof.  I think it is likely a good feature, but not sure how many uptruders (not in) we have thwarted.  If basement space is at a premium, it surely is a great place to store the bottom half of your ladder and you never have to install it to go climbing.

HHHHHmmmmmm.......Never thought of it , I guess I put it back under in the compartment because thats where I found it when I bought the coach.

But I guess I reduce the temptation of someone or a child from climbing it.........not to mention the money I will save if I happen to back into a tree , Just think.....I didnt damage the ladder!!!!!!.....LOL

Without getting to far off this thread. Does anyone carry a storage pod on your roof ?

This was a common thing to do in the 70's and 80's and some motorhomes still come

with lugage rack. Just thinking through my fingers.

A friend's RV was burglarized by someone getting on the roof and breaking through the skylight in the shower. Their built-in ladder, like ours, was one piece. Maybe if it was a two piece ladder with the bottom hidden they would have chosen an easier target since they probably did not bring their own ladder. And yes, it rained afterwards causing damage.

Wayne,

While our Mobile Suite has a "rail" around part of the roof at the back, I doubt I would add a pod as it might be a height clearance problem.  That might not be an issue with shorter RV's.

It's funny you bring this up when just this morning I got tired of that lower piece being stored in our cargo space. We just went fulltime almost 2 months ago and storage just became a premium no. So I simply hung it from the top step of the ladder and secured it. If I need it or someone wants to steal it I  or they will have to have a step ladder to get to the cords that secure it.

We still have to deal with storing the step ladder unfortunatly.

We've decided to use the rear ladder to hang our patio chairs. I went ahead and put the lower section of the ladder in its place and then hung the chairs which covers both sections. Put a cable lock around all to keep the honest folks honest.

And to Bills comment about someone using the ladder to break into the RV, it'll be a little difficult to climb over the chairs.
