Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
I have just spent a good couple of hours going thru' the threads in this forum and it has been very helpful, added a few links to my favorites bar, thank you!
We are just about (3 weeks) to move onto the base Famcamp, where Jay is still working to pay off a few last bills. We could be there for a year or so, what we are wondering is, is the weight limit as important if we are just 'sitting' in the same spot as it would be if we were travelling? We are trying to keep the weight down as much as possible and we will have a storeage unit to keep the stuff in that our Son wants us to keep for him, so we can keep extras in there for now. I'm thinking mostly about things that we can use from the S&B before we start travelling and would then obviously replace them with lighter products, things like dishes, pans, clothes, small appliances etc.
Also, what cleaning products do you use for the septic tank, there seems to be so many out there? We will be in a 40ft motorhome and hooked up to a full hookup inc' sewer. We just want to make sure there are no nasty odors escaping into the living space.
Does anyone know of a cook book that gives recipes/instructions for microwave/convection ovens? I have no experience with these but I love to cook and haven't found anything specifically for m/co's yet?
I did have lots of other questions until I went thru' the topics on here, you guys are full of really useful info/advice!!
We have our long awaited yard sale on Saturday and hoping to make some cash to put towards some of the essentials you all have talked about on here. Enjoy your weekends/travels!!
Huggs Kim x

Amen to racerguy's comment. Almost full before dumping black tank. NEVER leave the black tank dump valve open. Heck, for that matter, don't leave either dump open.
Regarding your cooking question, if you use the Search function on this forum & type in convection, you'll see several discussions on cooking in a micro/convec.
This is a site I found where you can convert a regular recipe's cook time & temp to what's appropriate for a convection oven. http://convection-calculator.com/
I have pretty much given up on cookbooks because of the space & weight, & I rely on recipe sites from the internet. Also, if you Google the specific make & model of your micro/convection oven, you'll probably find info on how to use it.
I only have a micro/convec in our rig & I'm getting used to not having a regular oven. It cooks most things faster than a gas oven, which is nice.
Weight can cause problems even on a short trip. If your RV is overweight and you hit a bad bump that extra weight and the force of the bump can strain the suspension and cause failure. That being said, it rarely happens. Just sitting... weight will not be a problem unless it is grossly over weight (thousands of pounds over).
We use the Thetford Aqua-Kem Powder Packets just to freshen up the black tank from time to time. Like others have said lots of water is the best. But if you do get a smell try Aqua-Kem.
When I use the convection oven I just follow the regular cooking instructions and put the oven on the fan bake setting also known as the convection setting. So far I haven't seen the need for conversion...everything comes out just right. I do wait for the oven to preheat to the proper temperature.

Thank you so much for the responses, all my cookbooks are going in the yard sale tomorrow along with 100's that Jay has collected over the last 30 years, I bought him a kindle fire to ease the pain LOL.
Jay doesn't think we will be over the weight limit, but I just wanted to check that it wouldn't be an issue (just sitting) if we are, thank you Bear!
Cindy, we actually have a regular oven too, but I was hoping not to use it too much, I don't think it has ever been used by previous owners. Jay likes to cook outside so that should keep heat/cooking smells down. I will be using the internet for recipes etc too.
We have a two day RV class with the dealer coming up in the next couple weeks, I have a list of questions for him and I am planning on taking video of everything he tells us, I know we won't remember it all once the 2 days are over!
Thanx again you guys, very helpful as allways huggs Kim x
