Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Just thinking about full time RVing & questions about current jobs

Hi there!

My husband and I are both in our early 40's and working in corporate America.  We have often talked about full-time RV'ing "some day" and while we were just looking to upgrade our small Class A Trek (we love spending several long weeks/couple of weeks a year in the CO area) the question came up - "what if we sold everything and just started living full-time now vs. later?"  Hmmm... VERY intriguing & appealing to both of us and we are starting to research accordingly.

In my current work position, I work from home and can work from anywhere as long as I have high speed internet and a phone (cell is fine).  My husband could possibly be in the same position for his work.  If we could keep our current jobs for the time being (to keep our income in tact and keep filling our retirement accounts for a few years more)... it might be a nice benefit for the short term.  We've talked about a couple of options... I work from "home" and he still commutes to the office in Colorado Springs... OR... we go whereever we'd like smile and we both work remotely from "home"...OR... b/c of the tight quarters, we both work remotely from a location of our choice but combat the space issues by renting monthly office space in said location.

Does anyone have any experience/advice/input to provide specific to keeping with the full-time gig for a while when starting the adventure of full-time RV'ing or specific to our scenarios described above?

We would like to (soon!?) migrate out of full time corporate work into work-camping opportunities but we thought that taking advantage of our remote work opporunties available to us right now might give us a good transition opportunity into this new lifestyle.

Thanks, in advance, for any of your input & experience you are willing to share with us rookies!

If I were in your situations I would definitely continue in my current job and work from "home." As far as space, I guess it depends on what you really need. If it's just the cell phone and computer I don't know why you couldn't both work in the available space.

Good luck with your plans!

Hi there.. and welcome!

We're currently in our late 30s, and been on the road full time since 2006. We both work remotely from wherever we're at, as long as we have access to internet. These days, it's become much easier to find internet than it was when we started out.

We're self employed software developers, and have tried a variety of RVs to meet our needs. Currently, we have a dual desk setup in our 35' bus conversion. It's working out great.

For further inspiration on doing this.. I'll point you to some resources that you might find tempting:

NuRVers - A community of us non-retirement age full time RVers who are working as we roam.
Ramblings - Our video series interviewing fellowing working full time RVers (each is 5-8 minutes long)

Links - Our extensive list of other non-retirement age fellow full time RVing folks.

No Excuses: Go Nomadic - Our free blog series that addresses many of the logistics of making a full time nomadic lifestyle approachable

Enjoy.. and if there's any questions we can answers, please do be in touch!

- Cherie
