Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

That Floating feeling

We test drove a 38' Monaco Dynasty Sunday. It was a well maintained unit but, there was that floating feeling. Is this normal with the air ride suspencion or would you think the shocks need replacing.

The unit is very clean and maintained with all records available.

 Thanks, Wayne

This may not help you much as we don't own a motorhome.  However, we've driven a couple and I used to drive 18-wheelers.

The floating sensation is very likely the air ride suspension working for you.  When I drove 18-wheelers, we had air-ride seats and unless it was a really hard bump, one seldom felt them in the "seating sensor."

However, during your drive, did you experience the floating sensation in your hands while driving?  If that sensation seemed solid and you had no squirrely movements on turns and lane changes, then I would say you were good.

How did it feel meeting trucks and experiencing wind gusts?  But then, did you get to drive it very far?   When we were test driving two different units in our research, one test drive was about 80 to 90 miles round trip and the second was about 200 or so round trip.  That last one was with a 42' Tiffin Phaeton with a tag axle, and it felt a lot more solid than the earlier 40' Phaeton on the shorter drive.

Had we gone with a motorhome, I think we would have opted for the 42' unit with the tag axle.  Extra wheels on the ground add to the solid feel.

It was a short drive of about 40 miles and no interstate. Mostly 2 and 4 lane roads. There seemed to be alot of "lean" in the turns and curves and swaying when we hit a bump.

I've driven 18 wheelers short distances. They never felt like this unit.

 Thanks, Wayne

If you watch the big MHs coming and going in and out of parking lots, rv parks or dirt roads you see a lot of floating, rocking and rolling....

I've driven short and long MHs with spring suspension, air ride and combination of spring and air bags. They all have had the floating and rolling. I always thought it was due to weight and height of the MHs.

The air bags provide the ride. If you noticed your rig bouncing a lot after going through a dip then shocks might be needed. From what you've indicated it sounds like a normal air suspension ride. Monaco's typically have an 8 air bag system and should give a very good ride.

I'd have to drive that Dynasty to be able to compare, if it has the 10 air bag suspension I would expect it to have a Cadillac ride.
