Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

WordPress or Blogger for Blog?

I've been using Blogger, but I've noticed some of the ones I follow switching over to WordPress from blogger.  From what I read on blogs and in the news, Google (the source for Blogger) wants to do more and more with "mining" people's information.

So, I'm looking into WordPress since it says it can import posts from Blogger into its WordPress's system.  I've also heard it may work better than Blogger.  From what I've read so far, WordPress also will work with Windows LiveWriter, which I've found to be easy to use, especially with uploading photos and video links.

Have any of you used both, and what do you think of each?

Have any others switched from Blogger to WordPress, and how did the transition go?

Thanks for any help or advice you all can provide.

I've never used Blogger in any serious way... so I can't offer you any words of experience here.

However, are you referring to WordPress.com (where they host your site and you get a URL like terryandjo.wordpress.com) or a self-hosted WordPress.org site (where you have more control and options, and have your own domain name)? I mention this as it may be helpful to specify which you're considering to narrow down the feedback you're looking for.

Our blog is a self hosted WP, and while it has its share of headaches - we love it. Before using WP, we hosted our blogs on LiveJournal.

Well, I was considering the cheap way, letting WordPress do the hosting, but what additional control would I have with self-hosting?  Also, I know absolutely NOTHING about HTML, so if self-hosting requires that knowledge, then I'll probably stick with letting WordPress do the hosting.

Yes... self hosting requires a bit of knowledge of PHP & HTML, etc. But self hosting does open up a wider range of templates, allowing advertising, plug-ins, tweaking, etc. However, WordPress.com does give you quite a bit of features, that most personal bloggers will find more than ample.

We have used both and have found WordPress to be more user friendly. I also think the layout is easier to work with and makes posting pretty simple. It will take some time to get it set up so don't get in a hurry.

If you have questions, the help section is pretty straight forward and easy to use.

I have started the new blog site on WordPress.  I was pretty amazed that it took very little time to import ALL the posts, including pictures, from Blogger over to WordPress.  So, if someone is on the WordPress site, all my past posts are available.

I thought I would have to go in and select each blog entry on Blogger using LiveWriter and repost it on WordPress.  LiveWriter also works with WordPress, so all I had to do was set up another profile in LiveWriter to make entries at the new site.

While I am still in the learning process with WordPress, I think I like it pretty well, especially with having pictures to share.  I've chosen a WordPress "theme" that shows a portion of one of the pictures in the blog entry for that day.

While I've not changed my signature to have the link to the WordPress site, my Blogger site has a link to the WordPress one.  Or, if anyone wants to check out the look of the new site, click below:
