Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.

We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

Bikes on the 5ver

An alternate and interesting approach, but potentially not a simple solution, is the approach taken by America by RV (http://america-by-rv.blogspot.com/#uds-search-results.) They added a custom bike hitch to their king pin which holds two mountain bikes or their tandem bikes. This would work well with your future Jeep plans, since part of their approach uses the same rack with their second vehicle (i.e., they take the rack off the front of their fifth wheel and put it on the back of their Jeep, when desired.)

So what's the best way to carry a couple of bikes on the back of the new New Horizons. I searched and found lots of discussion on trailer hitch mounts but we didn't order a hitch on the Majestic so that's out. We're taking our Mazda 6 as our daily driver to start but it doesn't have a hitch on it either so the hitch mount is out. I've tried the rear carriers for the Mazda and they just don't work with the hatchback model.

That gets me down to either hanging them off the ladder or putting them inside the rig when we're moving. The latter has been disapproved by the DW, they won't fit in the truck bed with the hitch and tonneau cover installed, and really won't fit in the back seat either…so am I pretty much stuck with the ladder mount? Has anybody had any success with these?

Thanks.

Mine worked fine for over 15k miles of towing. Just make sure you protect any spots where the bike might touch the 5'ver.

You say that you did not order a hitch on your Majestic, but can you not have a welding shop fab a hitch and install it for you?

Ken, sounds good. We'll probably end up going with the ladder mount until we trade in my Mazda 6 in a year or so for something more Jeep like; we'll get a hitch installed at that time.

Kevin, we could get one built/installed (in fact New Horizons would have put one on for us but it's like 500 bucks plus another 150-200 for the rack itself and that seemed like way more than it was worth. You can't double tow in most places east of the Mississippi as far as I know so putting a hitch on the NH solely to hold a bike rack felt like overkill to us.

Lyn, there might be something to that as well; I'll look into it and see if they have some more details on what they did.

Thanks.
