Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
My motor home sits for sometimes 4 months at a time in the winter (we live and have a home in Florida and stay home in the winter) some say start it and warm it up every month; others say let it set. What do you folks do?
An example, my sister in law drives a school bus and they set with out being started all summer; some road repair equipment may set for many many months with out being ran.
Let it sit until you can put it on the road and get all components up to temperature. That means at least 50 or 60 miles at highway speeds. Worst thing in the world is to get the oil about half-way up to temp and then let it cool. Causes condensation and damage later. Diesels love to work and work hard.
We live in Ohio and still w---, so have still do not camp through winter months. We basically park our TV through the winter months for 3 - 4 months. I try to start it up and take it out for about a 20 mile trip one per month as long as weather is good and salt has run off the roads. Just my opinion that it is better to run at least once every 3 -5 weeks but if doing this, run it on the road long enough to blow out any condensation and dry out the exhaust system, not just sit and idle.
