Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Not only are the folks here knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful, they are also just a wee bit smart-alecky. But, it really isn't important that your spelling and sentence structure be perfect, because I imagine a lot of us are rowing the same boat.
It is more of a matter of what one says that might get them booted. Genecop and I are the moderators of the forums, and I imagine that the main ones we've "booted" were the spammers and those with very inappropriate comments.
Now, all that said, in the upper right corner of the "box" used for posting one's comments, there is an icon that has "ABC" and a check mark below it. If in doubt, we can always use that little tool. How it works is that you "activate" the spell checker by clicking on it and any questionable words will have the little red squiggley line under the word. By clicking on the word, it will then give you suggestions.
Have fun with the family here at the RV Dreams forums, and we look forward to your questions and comments.
Terry

I think most people here will overlook anything but the intent of the post. Their sincere wish is to help others. That little tool Terry talked about is a life saver for me, I am a terrible speller and I rely on it whenever I compose anything. Luckily spelling is not an indicator of intelligence or heart, for most of us that struggle with it(spelling that is), its just a challenge we live with.

Ditto on the welcome. This is a great group of people, and not everyone uses a spell-checker - including me. The energy is always to be helpful and share with others in a positive way. As they say, "Don't sweat the small stuff!"
Welcome! I am new here too and English is not my first language. Spelling mistakes, grammar atrocities and botching the language in general are things that happen to me all the time.
Something I learned since I have entered the "RV world"... is that RV people are a bunch of happy and friendly people. And friendly people don’t shun others for petty things like spelling. I truly believe this will not happen here.
I play scrabble and words with friends to increase and help my spelling. Maybe cause I have a touch of ADD. who knows. I'll figure it out can't be any worst than attempting to dechipher the abbreviations of texts...BTW/ DH vs DW/ ttyl / lol /rofl/ that kind of stuff. Which really doesn't help me with my mispelled words at all. ha ha ha
Glad to hear there is a spell checker, I can be a bad speller and I am a little anal about having what I say make sense (at least to me) and of course the and spelling too.
Anal as in anal-retentive, see I just couldn't help myself from doing a Google on that.
LOL!!! Booted for spelling!! I must not be on that site or I would already know who you were talking about because I would have been booted by now also.
I alway just ask,,, did ya know what I meant when you read what I wrote... and if the answer is yes,,, well them I'm good with it I say.
None the less,,, welcome aboard. AND WOW!!! I didn't know about that spell checker on here,,, I'm sure I should have used it way before now. But then I'm not much of a computer guy either so I tend to miss that sort of thing.

HHHHHHhmmmmm..........if I was booted from a site for bad spelling , it would definitely be in my best interest. if they judge you because of grammer and spelling then they are placing themselves on a higher level...............................
you are my equal
never judge someone until you walk there life , you may be surprised how tough it is.....and how really Defined a person they are to be able to take what comes ahead and take time to protect you from it......

Engrish is my first language and I don't speak it very goodly. You will fit in fine hear. These folks try to figure out what you meant rather than focusing on what you typed.

And for anyone who really, really takes their spelling and grammar seriously (particularly in non-forum situations), I am a professional Virtual Assistant (www.AZAdminSolutions.com) and one of my many services is proofreading and editing. Just saying.... (thanks, Terry, for allowing me to make a plug. Feel free to delete if inappropriate).

It would be interesting to know what forum site that you were "kicked off" of?
Making an effort to use proper grammar and spelling is a gesture of politeness and respect to the ones that we are trying to communicate with. When we make a sincere effort to use something other than Walmart English, especially if that is easy to do, then we are saying that they are worth that extra time to us. And, I would respectfully suggest that it is easy to do if one uses a current technology called Spell Check.
Be that as it may, I suspect that getting kicked off a site for spelling could be a larger issue that was much more problematic. Perhaps a moderator had gotten tired of cleaning up the messes that were made by one who did not take the time to use proper grammar and some simple spell check tools.

With regards to this forum, it is 2 years old. Also, the original poster hasn't been logged in since last Fall, so they may not see the messages to respond.
While I can tolerate some poor spelling, mostly because I sometimes type faster than my brain works, I've also learned to watch for the "little red squiggly line" that appears under misspelled words in the forum's comment sections. I guess my biggest peeve with regards to forums, not just this one either, is having to decipher a message when the author doesn't capitalize words at the beginning of a sentence or use punctuation. I suspect that comes about because some spend too much time sending text messages instead of e-mails where one tends to "compose" better.

Those all cap or no punctuation posts are simple Terry. Just don't read them. I totally skip them, and if someone is in a habit of posting in that fashion then I block them....if the forum has that facility. That way I never see their posts.

Our brain is an incredible tool that can hold more information and do more things than any piece of modern technology in the world today. You might be impressed by the computer on your desk or in the palm of your hand, but those machines don't even come close to the incredible machine that sits atop your shoulders!
If you find that hard to believe, just give it a shot. Here is a brief sentence that has intentional misspellings. Can you read it?
Tihs is a smaple snetecne to tset yuor brian's abiltiy to corrcet mitskaes!
We bet you could read it, couldn't you? See? Your brain helped you to read the sentence — despite the misspellings
