Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Hello everyone! I'm (Steve) excited to get on here finally as a member of this community, instead of being just a lurker. There is so much I have already learned from forums like this, but there is a lot more I need and want to learn on the road to my (our) final decision to become fulltimers. My wife (Sandy) and I are in our late (very late) 50s. I am drawing a pension (small) from a 37 year career in the timber industry as a heavy equipment operator. Sandy continues to work in day-care. I have had the fulltime dream for many years, although I am not 100% sure if this is the best thing for us, especially, at this point, since my wife is only about 50% convinced. I'm really hoping she will come around. So, I'll continue researching and picking the minds of all the wonderful, experienced fulltimers, like yourselves, and just maybe in a year or two WE will join you all on the road of dreams.
Since you're in Oregon you might want to consider attending the fall rally in Harrisburg, OR. This might be a real good time for Sandy to speak with other wives and see how fulltiming really works for them. Plus with all the seminars you'll both pick up a bunch of info. We will be attnding the fall rally ourselves as we are still in the leaning mode. We will be fulltime in Sept. just in time for the rally.
Thanks Ken for the great advise on the Rally in Springfield. I agree it would be a great place for Sandy to visit with other ladies that are or have gone through the same thoughts and emotions about fulltiming. Looks like it would be a lot of fun. Could be in our plans for this September.
Welcome to the RV Dreams forums as an active member. Since you've lurked for some time, you already know of how much knowledge there is here. It doesn't hurt that it is also a friendly place as well.
You didn't say that you already had some kind of RV for camping, so I will presume that you don't. If you can have the opportunity to camp with some friends, you wife might get the chance to see what the RV life is like.
Good luck with the research and planning and with persuading your wife as well.
Terry

Thanks for the welcome, Terry. Sorry I didn't explain more about our RV history. We have owned an RV of one kind or another since the early 1970s. We now own a 1996 34' Pace Arrow class A motor home. We purchased it last year, so we really haven't had much time to use it. Most of our camping and RVing over the years has been weekend outings or a week or two RVing excursions within a couple hundred miles from home - which is La Grande, in n.e. Oregon. I do a lot of big game hunting during the fall of the year. This is when we spend most of our time in an RV.
We did get a chance to look at new Montana 5th wheels over the weekend. Very nice. But I think I'm hooked on Class A's.
We started out over a year ago looking at both MH and 5th wheels it took us that long to decide which one we wanted. Actually we wanted the best of both which as you know won't work. Finally deciding on a class A and are happy with our decision.
We are keeping our S & B for now and renting it out. We're going to head out for a year and see what happens. This kind of gives us retreat rights if you will. We are fortunate that the rental will give us a positive cash flow. We can sell later on if we decide to and hopefully the market will be somewhat better.
Welcome--you came to the right place. I don't have a lot of the answers, but I know the longer my wife and I spend in the 5th wheel, the more we love the simplicity of the rv lifestyle. You both need to love the lifestyle for it to work. All the best.
Hi Steve and Sandy We're new to the forum too, this place is wonderful. I'm new to living in an RV period - and I started out fulltiming LOL. My partner is old hat to fulltiming, he had been out of the RV loop for about a year and was begging to return, and as things turned out (weird how the Universe does that) we suddenly "needed" to live fulltime in an RV, and I gotta tell you, I wish I had lived this life sooner! We both work full time. Adam's a dental tech (makes dentures) and I'm a teacher, whose currently out of work, moonlighting at McDonalds full time. I'm just thankful for full time work, where ever it is. It's so nice to know that if we have to move for Adams job, that we can take our home with us! Major worry off our backs. makes life so much simpler. Welcome to the forum, and I hope you can fulltime ASAP!
