Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.
We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!
Planning to full time has almost become an obsession for me. My wife and I briefly discussed this several years ago but never gave it any more thought. Then, about three months ago, the subject randomly came up and I started to research the RV'ing lifestyle. By chance, I ran into Howard and Linda's site and have been scouring it ever since.
I'm retired military and have that retirement income, along with working a full-time job that provides a decent paycheck. After paying down some debt in the next two years, I'll look at buying a 5th wheel and TV. For the next few years after that, it'll be parked in various areas around San Diego while living in it full time so, not much traveling to start with. I'll continue working until the vehicles are paid off, then we'll start our little adventure around the country.
As far as traveling is concerned, most likely we'll settle for two or three months at a time in areas that are located near (or on) military facilities and close to airports with commercial glider operations. I'm working on my commercial pilot's licence (gliders) and can make some supplemental income to help out with expenses by flying for those operations.
We'll be following the seasons since neither my wife or I enjoy being cold but we'll probably do some trips to the Northwest anyway. I had a couple tours of duty up there with the Coast Guard (Oregon) in the 70's and 80's and enjoyed it.
The amount of stuff there is to learn about this lifestyle is pretty substantial but I find it interesting. There is no single "best" way to do anything. I guess it's going to be whatever works best for us.
Anyway, how many of you became obsessed with planning to do this? There are some things that I tend to zero in on and it becomes all-consuming. Flying is one of them and this RV thing the next. I'm excited to find out how it's going to work.
I hope to become acquainted with some of you while I get everything put together and eventually meet you on the road. Thanks for reading.
First of all, welcome to the RV Dreams forums. Secondly, thank you for your service to our country.
As far as RV sites go, this is one of the best and friendliest that I've found. The participants here have knowledge in just about every aspect and type of RV, so there is a wealth of information.
I guess you could say that I also became obsessed with looking and researching. It took us two years to research and choose the RV that we wanted. As a "serious, amateur photographer," I am enthralled with the idea of traveling this country and seeing all the beauty, taking photos of it, and sharing what I see with others.
You will have a lot to learn here, so feel free to ask questions. The only dumb questions are those that don't get asked, thus you don't get an answer to a thought.
Good luck with the researching and planning, and join the family of RV'ers as soon as is comfortable for you.
Terry

I have also become obsessed with this site and collecting as much info as possible, before we invest in an RV. I don't think it's possible to be 'too well informed' :)
Good luck with your plans, I bought hubby a glider flight for a birthday one year and he loved it:) He joined the AF to become a pilot in 1985, but ended up not getting qualified because of astygmatism! (sp?) but he still stayed in for over 23 yrs:) Welcome to the forum and hope to see you on the road sometime:) huggs kim x

Welcome aboard. Keep working and researching your goal of being a full-time RVer. Many of us here have been where you are now. My wife and I are less than a month away from hitting the road. We are also a retired military couple. I invite you to take a look at our newly launched blog to see how things go with us. We have been working to this for about the last five years.
