Hi Everyone. Well, after 15 years the RV-Dreams Community Forum is coming to an end. Since it began in August 2005, we've had 58 Million page views, 124,000 posts, and we've spent about $15,000 to keep this valuable resource for RVers free and open. But since we are now off the road and have settled down for the next chapter of our lives, we are taking the Forum down effective June 30, 2021. It has been a tough decision, but it is now time.


We want to thank all of our members for their participation and input over the years, and we want to especially thank those that have acted as Moderators for us during our amazing journey living and traveling in our RV and growing the RV-Dreams Family. We will be forever proud to have been founders of this Forum and to have been supported by such a wonderful community. Thank you all!!

SNL on Verizon confusion


Are you confused by Verizon and Verizon ads?  Well so is Saturday Night Live - http://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-57376227-71/snl-laughs-at-verizon-confusing-old-people .  If the video link off cnet.com does not work try "Saturday Night Live Verizon" as a Youtube search. 

Anyway I know what Verizon and all the other cell phone companies are doing is making it very confusing for people who "just want a simple way to get on the Internet" or "just want a phone", etc.  You are not alone.

Well, we are definitely "older" and we've been on Verizon for a few years, and I've never had that experience.  In fact, the Verizon people we've dealt with have always been super about explaining every question we came up with.

Also, as a former retail manager, a salesman such as this one in the video would be sitting in the back room watching a LOT of customer service videos.....

.....or, he'd be gone.

But then, this is Saturday Night Live and I long ago lost any interest in watching that show.

They were spoofing the Verizon ads which are full of buzzwords and don't tell you anything that helps you make a decision. My experience with Verizon salespeople is most are much more laid back.

DataJack is just reselling Sprint (as many of these similar companies do). And, looking at their coverage map, they only provide Sprint owned towers, which knocks out a significant portion of their footprint. 

At 5GB for $50, most folks might be better served with Millenicom which offers unlimited for $70, which includes all of Sprint's footprint, including roaming.  They also offer a Verizon plan for $60/mo for 20GB.

I don't necessarily think that Millenicom is a better "deal" than Datajack only because of the $$ involved in each of the "plans" is quite different. I prefer the DataJack plan of getting what you want to pay for. Minimum or Maximum without a contract.

I visited your website and if I'm correct you and the better half have some wireless expertise that most RV'ers may not have. Since most RVers probably feel like they are getting bent over on 3G service that come with "life-time" contracts, it might be helpful to others if you would share your thoughts on how to avoid that.

No matter how much you pay for a service, if the service is not available then you have paid too much. The Sprint service without the roaming towers could well make the Sprint service about as worthwhile as mammary glands on a warthog. YMMV, but being aware of what you need and what you pay could easily make one service substantially better than another.

A simple way as an older user like myself (61) to get the young sales person to understand my non-technical knowledge is to start the conversation telling them that "My idea of booting-up a computer is using a size 9", will get their attention real quick, because they usually have no idea what booting-up a comper is.
